This whole thing is fishy. I know it sounds crazy but I really believe that Conley Sr. is trying to figure out a way to get his son and Oden on the same team. Conley Jr. not signing with an agent..yeah right. Why should he? HIS DAD'S AN AGENT. Obviously Oden goes #1 to whoever and Conley Jr. goes back to school in hopes of improving his stock. Then look for Conley Sr. to try to manipulate next year's draft to see if he can get his son drafted by the same team that drafts Oden. Aw crud. Sorry, wrong forum.
Do you realize how improbable your scenario is? It borderlines on impossible. I don't see how you think one guy, who isn't a powerful agent, can manipulate the NBA. Could you explain how you think this is even a remote possibility?
If you knew it was the wrong forum why you click SUBMIT? so you knew it was in the wrong forum before you submit it and posted it anyway? something is fishy
Yeah, I realize it is improbable. But these guys are boyhood friends and one of the fathers is their agent. They obviously agreed to go to the same school. I'm sure Conley rode Oden in on that deal. I think Conley Sr. is going to see if he can manipulate. Maybe use the leverage of Oden not signing a long term deal after his rookie deal or something like that to try to coerce a team into drafting his son. On a side note, wouldn't it be interesting if Minny won the lottery and wound up with Oden and Garnett? I'd love to see that.
What are Mike Conley Sr's qualifications to be an agent anyway? The fact that he fathered an NBA quality player and befriended his teammate? That sounds like a bad idea already.
The Hawks will win the lottery and pick Oden, then with the #12 pick obtained from the Pacers (Al Harrington deal) they will pick Conley. At least that is their dream.
that would be perfect for them. as a rocket fan i'd be happy to see the top 2 picks go to eastern teams. i'd also hate if the hawks didn't get a top 3 pick and had to give (lets say) the 4th pick to the suns.
There is apparently a certification test that you have to take, and that's it. Once you have that it doesn't matter what your background is, you can be considered an agent. Conley Sr. did it last year before the boys entered college. It definitely gives Conley Jr. an advantage, up to the draft eligibility deadline, after that it won't matter... he's either staying in college or submitting his name. Until that point (which is what... next week?) Sr. can talk to the teams in Jr's behalf but not be paid. It's actually an intelligent way to get around the system. Gotta love creative people.
i actually looked it up, there is no actual certification test. its just an application where you list your accomplishments/education and you pay a $1500 application fee. if you are approved you're in, and you pay a $1500 per month fee to the player's association or something like that.
Good to know. They were talking about it on one of the broadcasts during the week before the final four and obviously the analyst didn't know what he was talking about! LOL Maybe I should find me a talented kid and become his agent.
I read in somewhere (SportingNews I think) that there are actually more 'certified' agent out there then the actual number of players in this league. So obviously getting to be an agent is really easy. The tough part is getting a player to sign with you.
How can the draft be manipulated by some rookie agent with just one or two clients? I think your theory is completely crazy, but to each his own. Plus, it's very likely Conley Jr. goes in this year's draft because his stock is very high.
i would not have a problem with us taking daequan cook he is a good outside shooter with nba range and the slashing ability and he usually plays above the rim.....this guy could be a quality backup for tmac.....
Would Oden and Conley be almost obliged to play for team USA if called upon? Conley senior is involved in Chicago's bid for 2012 Olympics, and he would embarass himself if his son and his top client do not play the Olympics.
