Funny because businesses/property values currently much higher on Main/Fannin then on Richmond/Post Oak... largely due to rail and a large number of new places to live inside the loop (also in part due to the ease of transportation).

The same businesses in "fear" that they'd go out of business for the 1-2 years to build the thing aren't thinking long-term (as usual).

Forgot to mention that I'm pretty you misread the article. The 700 million was for the University Line.

 

Dammit!!! As someone that works on Post Oak, I've been hoping for one connecting to other parts of town and eventually a commuter rail.

Someone needs to vote this idiot out!!

 

Pretty strange to deny your district hundreds of millions of dollars in potential federal funding.

 

Clearly was compensated a handsome sum (lobbied) to do so. Hard to believe he honestly didn't want hundreds of millions invested in his district.

They probably can't. I doubt many of them could operate at a loss for that long.

 

Well, Post Oak/Richmond also aren't as isolated (access-wise) as the one-way Fannin and pretty barren Main were along the lines in 2003. Also, the "big" businesses that currently exist along Richmond will be fine regardless of construction.

The whole campaign is based on the "fear" of what construction "could" do, rather then what it actually does, and what happens in the long-run (property value goes up, more access to said businesses that were fearing lower revenue), etc.

As it is, both Post Oak and Richmond (esp. Richmond) will need major road-work reconstruction done at some point over the next 10 years anyways. Additionally, Richmond isn't what it was 10-20 years ago business-wise... in part due to the resurgence of mid-town/downtown/heights and the washington corridor (which would probably benefit even more from mass transit).
