Well, I owe you an apology for saying that USA weren't a chance...

You are in the quarter finals...an outstanding achievement. I must say, this USA team is the worst team I have ever seen make it this far in a world cup. However, that doesn't matter...it's a bit like being the ugliest girl at the Miss World pagent...it's still pretty good. :D

Mexico were VERY dissapointing. They were so good in the group stages...and superb v Italy. They just didn't play today. Obviously there is a hatred between their player and yours and they seemed more intent today just to kick players heads...very dissapointing.

You guys now play the worst German team in a decade. How lucky have Germany been...the easiest run ever to the semi finals if they beat you.

This German team are very beatable. They have mastered the art of winning though.

    Good luck.:)

    Thanks,

El Tri played so well in some ways that it was extreemly dissapointing that they went for those fouls. even with all that physical play the ref made most calls against the US untill that floping call against hernandez. that was when i knew we would win. that flop turned the refs eye, and the yellows were much more even.

the treatment that Cobi Jones recived was just terrible. what was up with that. he is lucky he was a sub otherwise he would have been in ICU if he had to play even a full half.

to anyone that isnt seriously following the cup. please check it out. we have a beauty queen. sure she may be miss Toopa Loopa county but she has made it to the final 8 at the Miss world pagent.

put your negative assumptions of soccer aside and support your COUNTRY.

I need sleep, i got about 90 mins before I got to get ready for work. 90 mins made so much sweeter by the 96 minutes played in Korea just moments ago.

    again thanks

The tackles on Jones were disraceful. They seemed content to lose, with 10 minutes remaining. Rather, they just sought to unleash their frustrations. The head butt...tackles over the ball...disgusting.

I hope your country gets behind the team...they deserve it.

I have always wondered why the USA is so obsessed with grid iron (that sport where they play a few minutes to fill in time between the television breaks) when you have this beautiful, truely WORLD game to enjoy.

No way we lose to the US of A :). Might be the worst German team in a decade, but we have a better coach now than at the last two world cups and remember the quote by Gary Lineker...soccer is a game that is played by 22 people and after 90 minutes, the Germans win :D.

By "grid iron", I assume you mean football. REAL football, not this soccer crap that you like.

I have always wondered why the world is obsessed with soccer, (that sport where the fans kill people often and that sport who's greatest hero is known for cheating successfully), when you can instead watch real athletes play a real game. Truely. Or is that truly...

If you don't like football, thats fine. You didn't grow up with it. But its a hell of a lot more exciting to watch than soccer. The linemen going at it in the trenches, the QB making outstanding passes or option runs in college ball, or the receivers/ball carriers making incredible jukes on defenders, or the viscious hits made by defenders. If you want to see the most basic and real form of athleticism, watch a Deion Sanders punt return. Watch as he worms away from 10 guys all trying their best to kill him. That in my opinion is better than little dudes running around for two hours, seeing who can run around the longest, and worrying about controlling the ball more than beating the defender.

That said... I'm watching the US this world cup and I hope they win it all. Good luck to them.

First off I love football and soccer, they are both great sports. Soccer is truly a game of great athletisicm and beauty when played well.

I think a lot of people feel that Pele is a much bigger hero than Maradonna, and there are just as many touchdown's that shouldn't have counted as their are goals in soccer that shouldn't have counted, both are judged by human refs that will make mistakes

Watch the players go at it getting ready for a corner. There's just as much pushing and fighting for position.

Watch a soccer player do the same thing, take the ball and blow by defenders or send it down on a 50 yard pass to a teamate making a run between two defenders, or play a sweet one-two with a nearby teamate where the timing has to be perfect

the great soccer players can take any defeneder one on one, either by juggling the ball over them, sending it between their legs, putting a spin move on the, or a great stepover to freeze the defender and get around them

you mean like when a team has a lead at the end of a game and kneals the ball to run out the clock? yeah, that's beating defenders

And it is a bit more tiresome running for 90 minutes than to play half an hour resting between each play. Soccer teams can only make 3 subs a game, meaning 8 men will go the full 90 or they play a man down, there aren't subs after each play. Soccer matches aren't spread as far apart, the top teams usually have two games a week and only a month or two for off-season.

I like football so I not going to rag on it, BUT 85% of Football is watching guys standing around and commercials- the actual playing time of football is about 13 minutes- split thats 6.5 minutes of hitting and running between offense and D. Plan on 3 hrs minimum for a game start to finish.
Soccer 45 minute halves normally no subs (2 sub max or did they raise it to 3) best of all no game stoppage for timeouts, tv timeouts, Instant replay, and no F ing commercials (that alone makes it the greatest sport). A soccer team actually plays a constant flowing game start to finish which is about 2-2.5 hrs. Football is a coaches chess game- Soccer is a game where free thinking allows the players to decide when to make runs. (A bad coach can ruin a team in either sport). If you grew up with football watch the English Premier League its fast and aggressive-you'll learn to love it - Also when did Pele' cheat?

    HOW DARE YOU!!!

I go to work and some ignorant cowboys decide to **** on my parade. ok its not my parade, but why does every lug head have to bash soccer. and why does every soccer snob get baited in by it?? please do not do that lets compare sports thing. If you want to know what sports are the best in the world first you need to start your own thread. next you need to start and end with rugby. because as much and any of you cow punching block heads want to talk about the physicality for pointy ball it is practically Ballet compaqred to rugby.

I only want to adress a few things brought up above as i am a bit riled upn and fiesty. Diego Armando Maradona is opne of the 2 best players ever in soccer. he is known for alot of things, but was already of imortal like status by the time the hand of god happened. he was also already a drug addict and a bad man. you see we all are human and even gods have weaknesses. the funny thing is that the 2nd goal he scored in that very same game, the one he cheated in is concidered my most soccer fans as THE BEST GOAL IN SOCCER HISTORY. yes over 100 years of being the world sport, but his 2nd goal is the best.
I respecr bary sanders Joe montana, jim brown, and all the grid Iron greats. you damn better well respect a Diego Maradona. Hell i respect that tiger woods fella, and I despise golf.

I want to submit just a few more little things. most of south and central america are getting up at 2AM, watching 6 hours of soccer, and attempting to function afterwords. they do this for 30 days. I have been doing this. we all watch every game, yes EVERY game. you are a texans fan, will, you stay up to 2 am to watch them every night for a month?? maybe, just maybe you will, but will you stay up and watch the browns play the bengals?? I doubt it.
when you grid iron fans do to a game do you cherr the whole time?? you do?!!?! no, i mean the whole time, like in between the action. I mean from the coin toss to the last 2 mins when they keep taking the knee. do you yell and sing the whole time?? its possible, but we both know you never will. not even at the superbowl. but I wonder even further. do you stand up when you cheer?? because soccer fans dont pay for seats, they pay for a place to stand in the stadium. maybe taking a 5 min breather at the half. I am not doubting you love for your texans, Im sure it is strong, hell they hardly even have a team yet, and you seem smitten. But I belong to an army, Sams Army!

    USA going for the quarters.
    belive in your country
    belive in your team

    PEACE

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH*gasp for air*HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, dude. Soccer players aren't <i>real</i> athletes.

That's gotta be the most ignorant comment I've ever read on this board.

Nomar...I can appreciate 'American football' in a way. Here is Australia, we have a similar game in some ways...that being rugby league. The main difference is:
    1. Rugby League is faster.
    2. Rugby League is played by real blokes. Not over grown fat #### dressed up in 40 kg's worth of protective gear. What are they scared of? Getting hurt...or getting dirty?
As for athletes, the reason your game is so slow is that 90% of the players look like Fat Albert. It's the most non athletic sport in the world. No wonder the odd bloke who can run fast does well...I'd be able to run well also if half the crew from weight watchers were all I had to avoid.

Voice of Reason...keep sane and enjoy it!

Congrats to DrLudicrous for having the only reply worth reading.

Dr- All your points are sound. When i was talking about ball control, I meant the individual players having to control the ball whereas in football you just have to hold it. I find it more exciting to see more juking that isnt limited by having to control the ball with your feet.

VOR- I didnt bash soccer first buddy. Your friend was taking shots at football. I had to step up.

    DCKid- Die.

    sirhangover- Intelligent response. ****ing douchebag.

SRJ- 1. Faster how exactly, NFL players are faster than rugby players. 2. Most of the players actually have low body fat %. And people do get hurt. 90% of the players don't look like Fat Albert. 99% of the players are top flight athletes. Most of the 300+ pound lineman can run the 40yrd dash faster than you can even dream about. Ever played football? Half the crew from weight watchers? Is that a joke?

What? It was an ignorant comment and I called you on it. So, what's the problem? I could care less if you like or soccer not. I'm just pointing out ignorance here.

I have played League...a MUCH faster game than rugby union, which I am presuming you are mistaking it with.

A few of your grid iron teams came out here a few years ago to promote your code. They went to a RL game whilst here. There exact comments were "damm...these guys are tough sob's! where are there helmets!"

Real men play without helmets mate! :D

    BTW...I am stirring you.

One final thing...why do you call it 'football'?? Grid Iron doesn't exactly use the 'foot' much.

    SRJ,
actually Football is a term that goes way back and refers to a whole family of sports.
Soccer, OZ rules football, Rugby, American football to name the major ones.
American football is a DIRECT adaptation of rugby. infact most of the teams in the CFL (Canadian football League) started as rugby teams, but now play by the canadian rules. Also I dont remember when exactly, but a major rule change was initiated where a player could throw the ball forward. now Imagine of the flyhalf could make forward passes out to the wing instead of running on to the ball. before that however the sport resembled a slowed down version of rugby.
hell its just rugbys little brother, or maybe son is a better term. now that little boy has all the $$ tho. so if it wants to be football, it IS football.

nomar, sorry bro, but you know like I said I was all feeling feisty.
and i was railibng against a lifetime of blockheaded football players tossing around ignorance on my favorite sport. you just kinda cought some of the shrapnel.

    PEACE

2 best soccer players of all time.

    1. George Best
    2. Pele

Even Pele said that George Best was the best, hard to argue with that.
