It looks like we really smashed the number one objective for the organization: get the payroll under the luxury tax.

Prior to the deadline, we had a payroll of $133,090,030.

By trading Victor Oladipo ($21,000,000) for Kelly Olynyk ($12,198,243) and Avery Bradley ($5,635,000), we've pared JUST enough salary ($3.2 million) to get under the luxury tax threshold of $132,627,000. We're now at $129,923,246 of salary for the season.

Wow! Truly an amazing accomplishment. Congrats to the whole organization.

Would you pay LTS to tank? If so, why is that good strategy

We also increased our chances at keeping our top pick in the draft this year.
Losing Victor increases our chances of losing games. Increasing our chance at worst record.

u know Tilman probably ran into Stone’s office and they did their little handshake and gave each other a chest bump after this trade went through

forget the players and picks, if payroll is reduced, it’s a win

I'm not mad about getting below LTS, but it's still funny. It won't be funny if we are ever close to contention again (wishful thinking) and this ****er doesn't want to spend money.

Luxury tax savings is the true face of the franchise...even though it doesn’t have a face.

Word of advice, next time you trade for someone make sure they actually want to stay here and not want to sign elsewhere.

Damn who would’ve thunk it...that when Les sold the team...Mr. Joe’s Crab Shack would come and burn down the entire franchise...from 65 wins to 20 losses in a row in 2 years...impressive destruction by the mob father himself...

That's the risk. Where it stands now is they've committed to a full, probably extended rebuild. Or at least it'll be a "long term" rebuild until Fertitta inevitably gets impatient and trades for and/or signs mediocre talent to compete for the 7th seed. Hope they get lucky and draft a superstar talent to build around.

Problem will be what happens when they're ready to compete? If, say, in 3-4 years the team is championship caliber again (try not to laugh), and Fertitta is still the owner, will he really commit to paying the luxury tax? That's the ultimate concern. Even if the bet pays off where sucking is rewarded for a quick an unlikely turnaround, what type of situation would the Fertitta family feel comfortable overpaying?
