You played one helluva f*cking game. I'm not upset about this one, because the better team won. Yes, there were some bad calls down the stretch, but OSU outplayed us. Hook Em, and see you in Dallas next weekend.
Did you see on Sportcenter that OSU was practicing rebounding with shoulder pads and helmets?!? Maybe the Rockets should try that.
No ****. No offense to OSU who went into The Drum and beat us, but the officiating was atrocious tonight.
you can never say what would've happened, but it would've been nice to not be outshot 21-7 on ft's at one point and have 10 second violations actually called. hell, on that block of mouton, he got bumped by lucas w/ no call. i wouldn't really be mad about it except taylor got a foul on a fastbreak earlier from swiping at air. it was just slightly biased officiating. plus osu was hitting some tough shots. it was a good game, just wish the zebras would keep their noses out of it.
the 10 second call wasn't the only thing that was F-ed up about that game - I have two words: FREE THOWS. Did anyone else notice how completely lopsided that was? OSU went to the line what, like 8 or 9 times in the first half, and UT didn't shoot a single FREAKING one? I find it incredibly hard to believe that there wasn't at least one or two fouls that could have put Texas on the line.
There were plenty of BS calls, but arguing about the refs is counter-productive. OSU matched us basket for basket down the stretch.
I agree. They may sneak into a two if they win the Big XII Tourney, but the conference as a whole blows.
Cowboy fan here, and it was a hell of a game tonight. There were rough calls both ways, but some of the complaining about it is unfounded. First, the 10 second call. The rule says the ball must be over the line, watch the tape, it was. Yes, our player (I think it was Crawford) was in the backcourt, the ball was not. Second, free throw shooting. You cannot look at attempts at the line here, you have to look at team fouls. Texas had 22 and OSU had 16, much more even than the apparent discrepancy. This would be even closer too if Texas hadn't committed several late fouls. OSU shot more free throws because our team drove constantly (esp. Tony Allen) while y'all either settled for jumpers or we got out of Klotz's way and he hit a shot down low. There were calls missed that hurt us too. Boddicker threw down Crawford (when he got hurt) and there was no call. Also, Klotz shoved I-Mac to get a rebound which he then scored on and was fouled. Texas should have never even had that possesion either because Tucker kicked the ball out of bounds and it was called off of OSU. It was a great hard fought game in my opinion and it is too bad it's being tarnished with the officiating complaints. I think both teams will make runs to the Elite 8 and maybe more depending on who they draw in the Tourney.
gee, was game 6 of the lakers/kings WCF also reffed evenly too RiceRocket1? i mean wow, they called the ball out on y'all one time. the nerve!
Way to dispute my points. I flat out admitted there were bad calls both ways. There was more than one bad call that went against us. I used the example I did because it was right after the phantom ten seconds and would have cancelled it out. If you want to believe you just lost because of officiating fine, I'm sure that's why we won in Austin too. I sometimes forget that UT never losses and it is always the refs or some other force snatching victories from them. I know there are good UT fans, I'm friends with a lot of them, but I hate the attitude of some.
Good posts, RiceRocket, but take it from someone who reads these threads all the time - any time the horns lose, whether it is in football, basketball, baseball, or whatever, there are excuses for it and it really is never due to that the other team is better than us (unless it is OU in football). I guess they are upset that a team that was picked near the bottom of the conference wound up winning it over their "great" squad. Bottom line is that both OSU and Texas will be in the tournament and either team can go on a run and do well - meaning that they can advance deep into the tournament. Who really gives a f*ck about a regular season title anyway?
Yup. Cause when Miami loses, it's never the refs fault. How about the foul called on Tucker when he went in for an offensive rebound and didn't touch a soul? In an aggressive game like last night's was, anytime you see that big a discrepancy in free throw attempts, you know the refs weren't good.
Good points all around. What I've found is that many of these bad apple UT fans aren't really alumni, but just random people who have chosen to root for UT for whatever reason. I've found a good part of the UT alums to be quite reasonable fans and people.
Umm.. OK Manny, whatever. On a side note, can someone explain to me the logic behind storming the court after defeating a team that is ranked lower than you?
Ah yes, the classic "I grew up rooting for Texas, but even though I got accepted, I chose to go to a different school" crowd. riiiiiight.
