there's this mp4 music file in one of my folders on my computer that won't go away. it says "protected" on it. it also has a tiny symbol of a lock on the upper left corner of the icon. it gives me no option to delete it and all my attempts of removing it from my computer have failed. it's been the bain of my existence for more than a year now. does anyone know how to remove a protected file?

    1. Boot into safe mode. (Attack the F8 key while your PC is booting up (before first Windows XP screen starts loading)

    2. Delete.

    If that doesn't work.

    3. Start > Run > type "cmd" to bring up Command Prompt

    4. In Command Prompt, Type cd c:\folder\folder\ <-where folder\ = which folder it's in, with the whole directory tree.

    5. CTRL+ALT+DEL, click on Task Manager, go to Processes, and click on EXPLORER.exe and End task.

    5. In Command Prompt, type DEL filename.mp4

    6. Go to folder, make sure it's gone.

    7. Restart

    8. ?????

    9. Profit

what would i do without you.

pretty much, there's no real "exact science" to it. Just start tapping it repeatedly until you get a screen saying if you want to Boot into safe mode

Did you get rid of it?

    That'll be 150 dollars, please.
