I'm in the market for a new PC... My budget is $1000 or less. All are P4's, 2.0Ghz+, 512MB ram, 48+ CDRW Out of these three, which would you get? Do you have any info you can give me on any of these, things you may have heard about the PC's, testimonials from yourself or stuff you've heard from friends that may own these machines? Those of you with Recordable DVD's in your systems, how much do you actually use the Recordable DVD?
I would go with the Dell personally....I was working with the IT dept at a local college, and that is pretty much all the new computers we were getting in. The tech support was helpful the few times we needed to contact them..and they all worked good out of the box so that wasnt often. DVD burners...I use mine constantly. but then again, I like to download old cartoons and stuff from the newsgroups and make my own DVDs. I also use it to backup and store images of my OS/progs so that I can do a quick reload when needed.
I bought an HP Media Center PC a few months ago (HP 876x). It's 2.4 Ghz, 512 MB Ram, 120 GB HD, Nvidia 5200 graphics card (128 MB - I think), TV Tuner card with personal video recorder, 4x DVD+R/RW burner and I really like it. I have probably burned about 50 DVDs already. I made our Christmas card this year using a number of winter related pictures and some old videos I imported and burned a slideshow to DVD. We sent a number of these out. I have also recorded TV shows when our ReplayTV was busy recording other things and have either watched them on the 17" flat panel or burned them to DVD+RW to watch on our TV. I have also taken old pictures of my kids, created slideshows and given them to my wife and mother-in-law (mom gets hers at Christmas). They all love them. It came with the necessary software to do everything I've done (Arcsoft Showbiz and Sonic MyDVD). If you have any specifics, feel free to ask. At the time the cost was around $1600, but that included a 17" flat panel and a printer that I have yet to take out of the box. By buying the bundle I qualified for a $200.00 rebate which I have since received bringing the cost down to around $1400.00. For me it was only a $100.00 savings becuase I had to buy a printer I didn't need for $100.00 in order to get back $200.00.
Check ebay. A lot of brand new Dells are out there for less than you can get online and the warranty is transferable. They only problem is you can't custom build it so you have to find the right fit for you. I got one and boosted the memory - saved hundreds and love it
I have purchased a Dell Dimension and hadnt had any problems with it. It was a great buy. Go to the Hot Deals section on Dells site.
I've got a Dell Dimension 8200 and haven't had 1 problem with it. Everything I've bought from Dell has been quality, including my new 21" LCD Flat Panel monitor. I'm really diggin' the crisp images of f/f p*rn on that thing. PS- If my girlfriend is reading this, I'm just kiddin'.
Just got a Dell 5400, its great 'cept the free 48X CD Burner it came with is LOUD AS ****! I mean it sounds like a damn model airplane when I'm burning discs! I wonder if this is normal? Get the Dell rH! Get it!
do you really think? case motherboard processor power supply HD OS RAM nah... i really don't want to go that route.
I'd either buy the Dell and try to get the extended warranty or if you wanna go cheapest then build it yourself or get a BBSer to do it for ya.
thats not true anymore. It was for the longest time from the early to mid 90's thru 2002 or so.. these days, it is difficult to match value with quailty off the shelf parts. I dont mean buying cheapo crappy parts and whacking them together... I mean buying parts that will last and work good.. You maybe able to match the amount of a custom configured system from a major supplier...but youdont get tech support. Dont get me wrong...I stil build my own since the only tech support I need is if a part dies early....but for most of the non-techie public.....prebuilt is the way to go.
I thought HP and Dell sometimes used proprietary parts. What's wrong with an E-machine for less than $1000?
HP and Dell got away from doing that for the most part... all the stuff that you would usually upgrade (RAM, HD, vidcard, CPU) are compatible with off the shelf parts. because of the space saving aspects of the HP and Dell and Compaq cases...it is difficult to find mobos that will fit in their cases..
I hate to say it because I worked in Dell Hell for nearly 2 years but Id get the Dell. Ive been toying with the idea of buying an iMac because Im in love with the iPod, but I have to find employment first.
Yeah I want a computer. 2.8 gigahertz Intel 4...80 or 120 GB...512 MB memory...good video graphics card...a DVD/CD RW drive.. I have looked at Dell and Sony. Sony is cheaper right now...Dell's prices are always changing. HP and Compaq are okay but their video graphics cards do not meet my needs. EMachines same.. I don't want to spend more than 1200 bucks. I don't need a monitor or speakers or keyboard or mouse. On Ebay, there is a very good deal. http://stores.ebay.com/id=24989715&ssPageName=L2 Micro One sells really cheap computers. I don't know if I should buy it or not..I'd have to buy and install an operating system by myself..but it is really cheap...like at least 200 dollars cheaper.
Got my VAIO right here in Plano at the Sloopercenter... the big W. $998.00 Runs like a top that won't stop. Great built-in software bundle too.
