Is it still too early for Vista? I've heard from some people that it is. I'm searching for a new desktop since mine is extremely old. I could get XP but I don't want to waste my money on buying Vista later when I can get it now. Anybody have Vista now? Has it gotten better? Oh Yeah, and is Intel>AMD? I'm looking at Dell and Alienware BTW.
I'm using vista, and i have only had one really weird random problem. Seems to work fine other than that. That being said, I dont do much other than using microsoft office programs and internet stuff.....
Been using Vista for months with no problems. I have it on 2 machines now. The biggest issues you may find are finding a good software firewall for it and some graphics drivers have had issues with it, but much of that has been resolved. There are some new things you might have to learn about how it works and how some things have changed, but generally it's a lot like XP.
I had Vista, it came with my new PC but I took it out and replaced it with XP too flashy for me...i like it simple but I might put it back when it comes necessary
Just got Vista. Don't like it, yet. I liked XP from the very beginning. I can't wait to test KDE 4 in October.
its weird, the old version of Acrobat Reader (7) worked fine on the Vista Ultimate I put on my laptop on first release....but since I switched over to the Toshiba Vista business upgrade and put Reader 8 on here...its seriously slowed it down. thats the only problem I have experienced with Vista. but Im on a dual core AMD with 2G of DDR2 To run it default requires some serious horses, but you can modify (like Dunk said) the effects to optomize your specific machine. it has alot of good features...just dont think you are gonna run it on a old box without a lot of tweakin.
Vista has NO redeeming qualities. It's just eyecandy- at a price- the huge amounts of RAM and processor power it wants. Originally it was supposed to have all of these breakthrough technologies like a new, better type of file system, etc. Economics and deadlines came into play, and Microsoft sent us a neutered product with no upside over XP. XP is a mature, GOOD os that has tons of compatable apps. Vista, on the other hand, is the Windows ME of this decade. Wait for the next MS OS to come out and use XP in the meantime.
XP is better for now - which is why Microsoft has a service pack III in beta and has decided to support it until 2009 instead of 2008.
