How do I transfer a 10-minute VCR tape to a DVD disc? What equipment and/or software do I need? Since this is a one-time project, is there an easier way to do it? Also, how do I include it in a website? I have MS Office with Frontpage.

Any advice along these lines would be greatly appreciated.

Easiest way : get somebody to do it for you. Companies out there advertise that can do this. You can probably get it done for under $100... maybe even under $50.

2nd Easiest way : get a VCR/DVD recorder combo that dubs from VCR to DVD-R's. That could run you a couple hundred bucks and more for one of those.

Typical Nerd That Has Nothing Better to Do Way : Get some pass through device that can take video from input device (like tv, vc, etc.) and dump it on your hard drive (like a video card with video in and out or something like a Canopus ADVC50). Get software that can convert the video to dvd format and burn it onto a dvd using a dvd burner. <--- myriad of ways to do this.

If you want to edit the video before writing to DVD, then you've just made things slightly more complicated. :D

Thanks DoD. What companies do you recommend? What VCR/DVD recorder combo (for a novice) that dubs from VCR to DVD-R's do you recommend?

I saw one from Pioneer a little while back that looked nice(as far as specs go)...and I have never had problems from Pioneer consumer electronics...

IIRC...the price was a little over 200....maybe 225....since I do it manually anyway, and cant afford another piece of electronics(my wife is ready to kill me over the amount of electronics I have)....I didnt really notate the specifics...but if you find something and you wnt a opinion on it...hit me...

this way will certanly be easier than the way I do it...but it is a lot less flexible.

I have a computer that is setup to do it two different ways:

    1) video out from VCR into coax in on my computer's TV card... Tuner card software captures... author and burn to DVD

    2) video out from vcr composite a/v jacks into digital camcorder... through digital camcorder (which acts as an A-to-D converter) ... out camcorder firewire into computer's firewire card... Adobe premiere captures... author and burn to DVD

all it takes is time - something that I have less and less of as each day goes by.

Rockets2K and droxford -- thanks for the equipment solutions. I shall go to the electronics stores today to look. If I go with an equipment solution, then I can put holiday videos on the family website.

LegendZ3 -- I've never used EBay. I looks like your solution, like Dr of Dunk's, would be the most cost effective. I just need to figure out how to do EBuy....er, EBay...or find a company that does it in San Antonio, Houston or Austin.

    Thanks to all.
