Okay I posted a similar topic earlier in the week, but after doing a few tests I have discovered that my computer is indeed slowing down any network I hook it up to. Whether it be wireless or corded.

I recently just brought my computer to run on a friends network and it slowed his down the same as it did to mine.

This Sony Vaio laptop was bought brand new from best buy on Saturday and I have hardly put any new software on it.

I'm currently running a virus scan on it right now, but nothing showed up the previous time I ran it.

Anyone have any suggestions ? Anything I should change within my computer ?

It possibly might not slow down the network but possibly bring it to a crawl but maybe you have internet sharing turned on and your PC is acting as a router and distributing IP's to the existing systems on the network and everyone is having to get their internet traffic through your system instead of the primary router.

Could be a broadcast storm caused by a bad NIC. Look it up.

You may have a bad wireless adapter. Since it is a laptop, the easiest solution is to exchange the laptop ...if possible. If not, the wireless adapter needs to be replaced.

To confirm, you need a packet sniffer that can trace source to a MAC address. You may find your laptop is constantly broadcasting bogus data which would account for why it slows down the whole network. If you aren't a nerd, this is kinda hard to do, unfortunately. If you aren't a nerd, take it to a good nerd who knows how to check for this stuff.

Easiest solution is to exchange the laptop.
