I am going to reformat my HD and I was wondering what things you all think I should back up. I know I should backup my personal things such as documents and songs, but what about drivers and other types of programs? Any help is appreciated.

All you really need to backup is your personal info.

Drivers should automatically reinstall themselves. Unless you have some important software that you installed that you can redownload then i wouldn't worry about backing any programs up either.

So the drivers will download themselves when I reinstall my OS? I don't really have anything special on my computer (things I can't redownload). I mainly download things like yahoo messenger and other things off the internet. The only programs on my computer are the ones that came on it so you think I will be ok by just backing up my personal stuff and the things I manually installed unless I can dload them off the web?

Generic drivers will download, but you should go to the web sights for your specific hardware and download their drivers. Your PC will probably work better with their drivers.

Not to mention that some non-generic drivers aren't offered online, for instance SoundBlaster Audigy. But if you bought some hardware that's so picky that it needed it's own non-online drivers, that means it came with a CD and you still don't have to back them up because you should already have that CD.
