I know there are a few Electronic music afficianados out there... I've talked my Dad into buying me a computer for Christmas to use for Ambient Electronica and more orchestrated compositions. Would anyone have suggestions for hardware and software? I'm doing research now and would rather go w/ a PC, but need help w/ Soundcard suggestions and anything else you guys might think of. My goal is to be able to record radio quality music on the computer (or at least pre-mastered radio quality) and also to be able to burn my own discs. Please let me know if you are into this, even if it's just a run down of your system. Thanks a lot. I look forward to hearing from everyone.
yea, one day i had a craving to make electronica music. i obviously didnt know how, i did download a program two years ago but i forgot the name, it was like fruity loops or something. but one of my cousins did make a electronica song with a program he downloaded on the internet (dont remember). he didnt have any fancy shmancy hardware or anything. he just mixed sounds and bits of songs and repeated them and stuff. it wasnt very ambient like aphex twin selected ambient works volume 2 ambient. but it was perty neat.

gus, Most digital audio types I know would recommend a Mac, but I personally Would go with the most powerful PC you can get and be sure to get a Soundblaster Live Platinum with the neat little patch panel for midi that mounts in the drivebays. I think that a DDR based AMD mobo would be choice and be sure to get the fastest hard drive you can get (is the 10k rpm drives out yet?) ProTools is a great program for audio recording and mixing, Cakewalk is also pretty good from what I hear(never used it). A better person to ask would be Jeff, he works in/has a studio when he can tear himselff away from here Thats the quick and nasty as far as I know.. good luck
