OK..last night i was using my laptop as usual.. and all of a sudden the monitor starts to shut off on me.. but the laptop is still on.. i looked at the batteries and adapter and its still plugged in.. only the monitor is off... any help or ideas to help? i was just sitting there.. not even touching the computer and it starts to die on me..sooo eek the laptop is a compaq armada...and if u got any suggestions on how to fix my computer please respond asap.. im at school right now
Any possibility that you accidentally set it into stand-by mode? Soem of the laptops at work get set to stand-by and they don't always want to come out of it. Try unplugging it and removing the battery. then put the battery back in and re-start it. See if that brings it back up.
questions: It shut off while you were using it? or was it just sitting there for a while not being used and then the screen went off? and did it come back on if you hit a key or moved the mouse/touchpad? two possibilities: monitor going bad sleep/hibernate mode being activated
I was using the computer ..just reading some stuff online using the mouse... and iwasnt clickinganything and the monitor just died out on me...and i doubt that it was on stand-by because i pressed the small monitor button and it would pop up the screen again showing my desktop but then it would flicker on and off then turn full black again.. i later then unplugg the battery...and plugged it back in... turned the computer offand turned it back on.. but once i turned it on.. it would show the "compaq" screen .. then flicker off again is there a possibility that the monitor is over heated? cuz i usually just leave the laptop on forever and never turn it off.
not to be alarmist on ya.. but it sounds like either the monitor is going out or you have a short somewhere that might be aggravated by the high heat of leaving it on all the time. sounds like its time to take it to Compaq and let them check it out. Is it still under warranty?
I have seen laptops do this when the battery is going bad, even while it is pluged in. If you have a spare try to swap it out.
