I have been getting the error message 'Windows protection error. Restart your computer' lately. Usually I just restarted my pc and everything would be fine.

Yesterday, it got worse. I couldn't even start my computer. Everytime it got stuck at 'Verifying dmi data pool'. One time it did make it to the desktop under the safe mode. But I received the same 'Windows protection error' message right away and couldn't do anything.

That particular pc is not connected to the internet so the chance that it is being infected with virus is minimal. The funny thing is that the only program which I have installed to that pc lately is Mcafee Anti-virus. I need advice. Please help.

that one is tough to figure out...what I usually end up doing is doing a reinstall inplace of your operating system.

It fixes the problem 8 times out of 10...try that first.

If it doesnt work, then we will try something else.

If you reinstall windows into the same directory you should not lose anything off of your harddrive, but if you install it into a new directory you will.

    what Uprising said..

If you do an "in-place" reinstall...it *should* keep all your settings while replacing any Windows system files that have become corrupted(which is probably what your problem is).

Worst case scenario, you might have to reinstall a couple of apps or reset some of your custom settings..It has been known to happen...but what do you expect? It is Windows...;)

hey Mac guys...anyone have an old G3 or something like that they want to give me so I can experience the joys of Mac ownership? :D Didnt think so...thats the only way I will be able to "get a Mac"...too damn expensive....

whooa, dont start...we have been thru this discussion before havent we?;) :p
