My brother's computer doesn't boot up, it gives me the error: ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupted. I pressed delete on startup to enter the BIOS hoping I could just stick a winxp cd and format my HD and re-install, but when I enter the bios it asks for a password.. to which no one in the family remembers setting. Any way around this? Or what should we do?
This happened to me once in the past. There was some jumper that I set on the motherboard that wiped the bios of all the saved info (including settings). That worked, but I don't know if your motherboard is the same or not. Do you have the manual for it?
Should've prefaced... computer newbie No manual, but I could look for a switch on the MB, although I wouldn't know where to begin..
Most likely you can just put the CD in and it will boot from it, if it won't then you'll have to get into the BIOS. If you know the maker/model of the motherboard you can probably get the manual from their website.
How to reset the bio password: 1. Take the battery out, and put it back in after 10 mins or so. 2. Switch the jumpers. 3. Try to use some of those backdoor manu. password, google it. Anyway, the first two should work for you, it' s easy enough.
Yea you're going to have to crack this one. Google it and try finding a solution on there. And hopefully if you're lucky it will work. I've seen cases where we just couldn't crack the password
