I need a little help. Within the last hour, a little "warning" box has appeard with a red "X" button in the top right hand corner that says the following: Windows needs to restart because the Remote Procedure Call terminated unexpectedly. What the hell does this mean and why is it happening all of a sudden?
Haven't got an error since downloading this: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp
that just happened to me the other day too....and just happend a few min ago. I had to reboot etc. Going to do that download. thanks.
Just got off the phone with Road Runner tech support. They said this problem is caused by a vunrability in Microsoft operating systems that lets a computer access your computer through an open port and mimics a ip address that your computer thinks is safe. (thats what I understood atleast) Apparently the problem got out of hand to day as the culprits did a mass ip prob for the open ports. The tech guy I talked to said he has been handling these calls all morning and the wait for help is getting close to hours instead of minutes. Microsoft seriously needs some competition, becasue there products are getting really crappy. I guess it is hard to make anything safe when the best computer people are out there don't work for the companies....
Microsoft has competition... For example : 1) You can run Linux. And it's so much more secure and free! 2) You can buy an Apple 'cause nothin' ever bad happens to Apple computers... and Apple's users are cool people who are always happy!
It never affected me. Why? I use a hardware firewall on my home network. If there was ever a reason to install and properly configure a firewall (hardware or software), this is it. I did have a couple of clients called me saying that they had their machines give them a RPC error and then reboot...I didnt realize at that time what was happening. Oh well, at least I get a service call to install the patch.
Man, that's weird. I was going to post a thread with this exact question because this was happening to me all night last night. I decided to click on this thread before I started my own and low and behold...the exact same problem. That's why I love this bbs. Does that link work? I'll have to try it when I get home tonight.
I must have a Super OS cuz I don't seem to be getting these problems. Or maybe it's because I run 2 anti-virus, 2 software firewalls, a hardware firewall, and update them as frequently as every 6 hours. Hmm... Oh well... all this tech stuff baffles me.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/washpost/20030812/ts_washpost/a46233_2003aug11 Damn...I am glad I didn't have any trouble getting rid of this thing!
yea, it really seems to baffle you......NOT! I dont understand why anyone would connect to the internet without some sort of firewall..especially if you are running Winblows. Though I think the redundant firewalls are a little overkill, I do run 2 AV packages.. My measly hardware firewall does a bangup job of stopping stuff like this and messenger spam... I never have had a problem like this hit me.
