Computer help (wireless internent connection)

    Ok i have a problem. well probably it is a stupid question but i can't really solve it.

    I got a internet connection at my new home (I moved this December). But I have a problem with the wireless connection. When i have an internet cable in my pc internet works perfectly. But when I try wireless internet does not work.

    What is strange is that my PC does get a wireless conection, he even says i have 100% connection. so it seems that my pc does have the connection, but that for some reason all my programms which use Internet cannot find the connection. Does anybody know how this can be (I already turned of my firewall).

    Do you have the router WEP enabled or passworded?

    And does your PC know the password?

    Has it acquired an IP addy from the router?

    That is the problem i do not know those things. I used my router for cable internet, but never for wireless. And when i used it i didn't use any pasword. So i do not know if it has a pasword.

    As far as i know my pc did get an Ip adress from the router.

    I'm really not good in these type of things.

    Do you have model numbers for the router and the adapter attached to the PC? Maybe we can start there and guide you to solve this. It probably still has the default password, and if it is secured and your PC doesn't connect to it, it is possible that the encrypted signal only allows connection to get a "local area neetwork" ip, but not one to allow "internet" access.

    It happened to me plenty of times at my in-law's house. I would have the connection on a LinkSys router to a small USB adapter to the PC, but it never got "internet" connection. I realized later that I had to enter the entire string of A-F or 0-9 characters into the key field of the program managing the wireless connection on the PC. How do you know you have wireless connection [what program or icon can you see that does this] ?

    Can you take a screen capture of the program that handles the wireless connection and post it here? Also, it is a PC or a laptop? Laptops nowadays come with WIRELESS adapters integrated, as do some PCs.

    I will be able answer most of those questions in about 29 hours. I'm at work now, and i will nog be home to do those things before that.

    The problem is that i bought my router years ago, and i seriously doubt that i have the manual.

    I bought a USB wireless adaptor, and the program of that USB stick tells whows that i have a wireless connection (because the icon of the program is blue which shows that it has a connection). It is for my pc.

    p.s. I'm a Feyenoord fan:D

    You do NOT need a new wireless router.

    You're not entering the CORRECT KEY you made on the ROUTER into the appropriate field on the program that accepts it on the PC.

    You do know why I cheer for PSV, don't you? If it were la BundesLiga, I'd cheer for "El Stuttgart" ;)

    Ofcourse i know why you cheer for PSV. Salcido is a nice player. I will cheer for PSV in the Eufa Cup:D

    I have the exact same problem and I can't solve it either. Would someone please help.

    1) I have a cable modem, my ISP is Comcast

    2) I have a ZyXEL wireless router connected to the cable modem

    3) I have a desktop PC running XP which connects to the router via ethernet cable, no problem.

    I also use this desktop to setup the ZyXEL. No password, no encryption.

    4) My brother has a Mac labtop which he could connect wirelessly to the ZyXEL

    5) I have a labtop PC running Vista. I used it connect wirelessly when I traveled, no problem. Currently it can also connect to my neighbor's Belkin wireless router, no problem.
    It connects to my ZyXEL with the ethernet cable too, no problem.

    The problem I have is that it connects to the XyXEL wirelessly but the connection stops at the router. I can ping the router but Web browser(s) can not get to any web site. It simply can not get to the Internet thru this route.
    When I run ipconfig from the Command prompt, it shows 5 lines, 2 of them blank.
    - Connection-specific DNS suffix - (BLANK)
    - A hex address (for a new Vista IP protocol v6, I think)
    - A dynamic IP address
    - the Subnet mask
    - Default gateway - (BLANK)

    When it connects to my neighbor's Belkin router, all 5 lines are filled in.
    - DNS suffix is Belkin
    - Default gateway is 192.168.2.1

    I know these info for the ZyXEL router from the ZyXEL setup page
    - DNS suffix: hsd1.tx.comcast.net
    - Default gateway: some valid number

    I don't know why my labtop do not get these info.
