I believe my PC has been infected with some sort of virus. I tried to open some attachments in an e-mail called "Darling", and now it has attempted to spread to all the names in my address book.

I got some sort of e-mail from something called "Network Associates Webshield". They said that a virus had been detected and was cleaned and quarantined. Does that mean I am in the clear? Is my computer still infected?

What kind of virus removing/preventing software should I look into? Thanks in advance.

Speaking of viruses, I got an email this morning from someone who has the same last name as mine.

Being half-asleep, I looked at the email and saw there was an attachment and the name of the email was "LANGUAGE". Well, just clicking on the email gave the message of "do you want to save to a disk or run". I never choose the first option, but then I deleted the message without actually clicking on the attachment. Well, the next thing I know I get 30 something email messages that have "Undeliverable" or "MAILER DAEMON" and they were sent to various email addresses in my address book. One of them said that it had detected the Klez Virus. I'm like "this is fu*king great! I wonder how much damage is done to my computer." Unfortunately, I am at work now, but I'm going to talk to this one guy who knows all about these things. I just hope when I get home I'll still have a computer. :(

ZRB - there is a free scanner at http://housecall.antivirus.com/

It will scan your machine. You should really consider buying an antivirus program or at least downloading an "evaluation" copy.

I already have McAffe Virus Scan, but it didn't find anything.
That scanner you provided found two infected files, which I deleted.

Manny- That's the same virus I had (or maybe I still have). The program that bobreck provided seemed to work, but I'm not sure.

    What a buggering awful situation.

Mcafee didn't find it? You have to make sure that the pattern file and scan engine are up to date and also get the latest version. I think Mcafee is 7.0 now.

What did Trend say that it found? You need to research the virus and make sure that it hasn't added anything to your registry or autoexec.bat to restart itself when you reboot.

Yea, I talked to one of the computer people at work, and they found this link which is from Mcafee. Of course, I haven't had a chance to try it on my home computer since I am at work, but I have made arrangements for it to be fixed.

It seems pretty simple in what needs to be done.

I highly suggest that if you do not have some sort of antivirus software, GET SOME!!! Especially one that has EMAIL SCANNING!!!

Amen. I haven't had a virus hit me in years because of this.

Get Norton Antivirus or Eset NOD32. Two of the best.

i've never had a virus period. What are they main ways to get them, are they a totally random occurance. Or are the people singled out and then implanted with the virus?

Well, we ran Norton on my home computer last night. It scanned over 32,000 files in over 3 hours and said that none of the files were infected. However, I was still getting like 40 emails that had "FWD: Undeliverable" or "MAILER-DAEMON".

It may be a coincidence, but I have had some problems with my home computer this morning before going to work (it was taking a very, very LONG time to load).

The guys in the sim leagues will probably be getting crazy emails from my home account. Unless, the title is some trade offer (and I have only sent like 2 out and both using the BBS), then they are bogus emails that need to be deleted. I am sorry this happened; it is a very f*cking frustrating thing to have happen.

    Hey Manny,
this is what my filtering program from my ISP said. It may help. ALso make sure you have the latest virus scan files. If you have not updated lately then you may need to do that.

The virus software on ev1.net has reported that you were
sent a virus from "email address deleted for posting", with the subject "A new game".
The E-mail containing the virus has been removed to prevent further damage.

the W32/Klez.h@MM virus !!! was found in file: Unknown File

you can get them in an email attachment. do you have email? if you haven't been infected, your chances are pretty good that eventually you will... if you have no virus protection, get some, you are not immune.

I'm gonna see what it is doing when I get home from my class tonight. I have a test, so I should be back by 9. I knew that it was the Klez virus and the Norton stuff was supposed to take care of; however, I have my doubts. I do have something from macafee, so I will try that if I am still having problems when I get home tonight.

If you go with McAfee make sur eyou check out this page and see how they say to get rid of it. Apparently the virus can sometimes diable the scan software and they have a work around for it.

Obviously you are still having problems because I am still receiving emails with your email address as the return-path. The latest one was sent from goatrat@yahoo.com, but as I said, your email address is the return-path.
