Hey guys, I am having a bit of a problem, I have a machine that the HDD crashed on, so I bought a new HDD for it. I want to do a clean install of XP Pro, but for some reason, there are no CD drivers and the HDD is not formatted yet, so when I put the XP Pro CD in, it basically does nothing. I tried making a 3.5" Dos diskette on another XP machine, but it didn't have CD drivers. Any suggestions? Thanks, DD
In Bios all the drives are listed as Unknown devices.......and they are all set to Auto... I am baffled by this. DD
Did that already, it is just not getting to the CD drive......and the CD drive is not being recognized in bios. In fact it says not installed when I look over it.....on both the HDD (Which is to be expected) and the CD drive.....there are actually 2 of them on the machine..... I am confused DD
It is set to cable select, but I finally got it working, still no HDD, but it seems to have found the CD Rom now and so I am going forward with the install...hopefully the HDD will be found when and if I am able to format it. DD
get another computer and put the new HDD in it and intall xp on it. Then take it out and put in the machine you want.
I may do that, but I think the problem may be MB related and cable related, and if that is the case, then I won't be able to use it at all. DD
Well I think the problem is that the machine is a few years old and it does not support the massive HDD I am trying to install, so I am going to go get a smaller one and see if that solves the problem. DD
