I have a month off untill I have to go back to school and need a new computer game to waste some time. I havent played anything in the past year and have no idea whats out. Does anyone have any suggestions for any real time strategy games similar to Command and Conquer or starcraft? Also I only have my laptop (1ghz Athalon, 512 mb ram) so i really cant play 3d games.

    Thanks

I'm in the same boat you are in, though my laptop doesn't have the RAM that yours does. I recommend that you take a look at extendedplay.com, they've done some reviews recently of some new real time modern warfare games. Would you be interested in strategy God games. I recommend Age of Mythology, if your comp can handle it.

    A-Train,

    That is just mean.

If you liked StarCraft try my game.

Conquest Frontier Wars. You can pick it up for $3.99 at EB.

It has been called Starcraft on steroids.

I have a 700Mghz Athlon with 384 MB RAM and I run all kinds of 3D games. Just buy an inexpensive but decent video card with a little extra RAM on it.

Check into Age of Mythology. Not sure if it requires a 3-d card but if it doesn't you will be in for a real treat. That game is very nice.

    The Thing 2.

I've heard good stuff about Age of Mythology too.

A decent 3D card (Geforce 2 or higher) should work.

Yeah, I really want to play Age of Mythology, but my compaq laptop comes with a crappy intergrated graphics card, the "awesome" Tridant Cyberblade. . .

I have Age of Mythology, but it just feels like more of the same (ie, another Empire Earth, Age of Empires II, etc.). I still like Empire Earth with the expansion pack the best in this genre, but maybe AoM will grow on me.

Ooooh...integrated chips on laptop....not sure about that.

You need a 600mghz with 128 mg ram to properly run our game.

I have a 800mghz pentium III and 128 mg of ram.

I mangaged to run Max Payne and Mech Warrior 4 on my laptop, not the best, but somehow it still worked. There was only slow down on Payne when they had little cinemas that showed an entire city, water, snow, and a helicopter. Mech Warrior 4 looked ok, but I'm drooling at the chance to run it on something with at least 32 or 64 bits.

Yeah I agree that it feels more of the same(but that is a good thing right??). What I like about it is that I personally find the campaign story line more compelling than any of the previous Age games and EE. the other thing is it seems like gathering resources is not as cumbersome. In the AOE games iy seemed like ther was either not enough resources or you really had to work to get enough to do anything with. I probably need to go back through Empire Earth. I last played that on my old computer which was beyond slow. I think I may enjoy it more on my new machine.
