ok, i formatted my computer today, re-installed xp, and well... windows update now needs geniuine validation when it never needed it before. i think i got that problem solved though, so thats not what i need help on. my problem right now are my graphics and audio drivers. i used to get those easily by downloading driversguide toolkit, and it would find the exact driver needed for me. but now it costs money, and i dont know what to do. so please anyone with computer knowledge, help a brother out. i am dying without music here.
Usually, you can go to the website of the company that manufactures your comptuer and download drivers there. What company made your computer?
i got this computer from my dad, and the audio card is from completely not the same company. but i did buy the video card myself, it is a radeon 9550.
Video drivers https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293 What did it use to say when you looked at the sound card drivers? We need more information than you are giving. Anything that can help with identification would be good.
Ok, we're going to have to run through a few questions in order to make a reasonable guess. Question #1 - Do the speakers plug into an inserted card similar to the video card, or do they plug into a plug near where the keyboard, mouse, and printer plug in?
Good stuff, ottomaton... integrated sound card, or in an ISA/PCI slot, huh? I'd say PCI slot, since he doesn't know brand name or clone...
man, its not so great after all. i downloaded realtek audio 97 and theres a little crisp to my sounds now. it wasnt as smooth as before. i am guessing this is not the right driver for me. ottoman, i believe its an integrated sound card. its below the mouse, keyboard, etc. plug ins. unlike the video card.
Try to find some identification on the motherboard. It will have been manufacturered by a company like Intel, Asus, MSI, or another. See if you can see a model number. If you can get that information, I can tell you where to go to get the drivers for it.
Go to start menu->My Computer. Right click on it and select properties. This will open up a new box with some tabs on the top. Select the one labled "hardware". Then click the button labled "device manager". You will get a window like the one below: If you can copy everything under system devices labled hub, port, controller, and bridge and post them I can tell you what driver to use.
