Read on Digg, that they are shutting down 128 stores. They originally had 228, so now it is going to be 100 stores only nationwide. Only two remaining stores in Houston, are going to be the Royal Oaks branch and the Galleria branch. I think there were 12 in Houston to begin with, now only 2 remaining. Remaining stores are listed here: http://www.compusa.com/locations/store.asp Might have some liquidation sales on the closing stores.
i always thought they had some decent deals once in awhile. Oh well, the only one i go to is the one in the Galleria anyways.
Never been a fan of Compusa- they've always had horrible prices IMO. I'll save my cheering for when Best Buy goes under.
You'll probably be saving your cheering for a while. I've never seen a Best Buy that isn't packed. I would probably never buy another computer from Best Buy, but they're pretty good on everything else. They seemed to have slightly relaxed on the dumb ass warranty policies that they always try to sell you.
haha just dont hold your breath waiting for that. Best Buy is the biggest name out there right now in consumer electronics stores. and that isnt likely to change anytime soon. Their only competition in their target market is Circuit City, who in my experience actually has WORSE customer service than Best Buy. AS much as some of you b**** about the morons BB hires, at least when you go to their manager with a problem that *should* be under warranty, they dont tell you it isnt their problem and you should contact the manufacturer. I dont mind that the BB employees are for the most part morons (tho in the Baytown store I was pleasantly surprised to find they have managed to keep some of their smarter employees for longer than 6 months), I go in knowing what I want, and I certainly dont need some kid helping me with anything but getting what I want out of the stockroom.
CompUSA has always sucked. The mistakes (and not just price) were so obvious and they apparently were so oblivious.
I can wait. I don't do BB on principal and because there are so many options. Remember K-Mart? There's always a bigger fish (or a smaller one growing rapidly).
i just bought a laptop from CUSA 4 months ago. glad to know Galleria one will still be around. btw, i heard they are building a Best Buy in the gulfgate area. anyone know anything about that.
I won't cheer this, because sometimes I can find things there, when Fry's is out or something. I know of 2 in LA that I sometimes go to. I have no idea if either of those will survive.
Interesting that they would open a Best Buy store in that area since there is one a few exits down at the Almeda Mall location. We shall see.
whoa really? i live about 3 minutes away from there. they have yet to impress me with quality stores, still i would prefer a frys. if frys opened more stores they would put best buy and circuit city out of bussiness. theyre like the walmart of electronic stores.
I understand the dislike for the big stores, but quite frankly in my area there aren't any other options for computer stuff. It's either Best Buy, Circuit City, or Compusa, all of them right next to each other too. Fortunately it's staying open near me. And I really don't like Circuit City compared to the other too. Even worse customer service, higher priced, and less variety.
That's why you go to New Egg for good variety and good prices. Fry's as an alternative is one is near you.
Bought a Cyrix MII processor Packard Bell (stop laughing) from ChumpUSA in 1998. I always liked their sales staff's knowledge. They knew much more than Worst Buy for a long time... no one could rival them. The Frys and the Micro Centers and NewEggs and TigerDirects have taken over. Not much of a difference from that to having one on I-10 near Bunker Hill, then another one on I-10 and Fry Rd. We need a Fry's near Katy to rival the Worst Buy on Fry Rd.
I boycott Best Buy, they fuvking charge 20 bucks for a freaking Sata wire that actual cost about 30 cents. I brought one online for fifty cents shipped, but yet, there are stupid people out there that are willing to pay for them.
