Need some advice on upgrading my comp. I have an old ass Pentium 1 with crap for memory, crap for a graphics card, crap for a sound card, and generally crap for anything else. I don't have the cash to upgrade all at once, so in what order shoud I do this? I'm planning on doing this myself and I really don't know what I 'm doing, so if you could give me a general idea of how hard this is going to be, that would be nice.
I know you said you didnt have cash to do this all at once but it sounds like you really need a new computer.

Oh dear LORD!!! Best Buy doing updates? HAHAHAHA . . . I wouldn't trust Best Buy with any electronic device to save my life, especially a computer. If you want someone to do updates, take it to a local computer shop. It will run you some money though. I worked at Lightspeed Systems, and can vouch for the folks there knowing their stuff. BUT, I would suggest not upgrading -- I know it's hard, but save your money. For 300 to 500 bucks, you can build yourself something that doesn't suck.
Oops... Looks like I posted in the wrong thread...too many windows open and too few brain cells working....sorry Meant to post here: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30737 Anyway, while I'm here, I'd have to agree with Vengeance: It's pretty unlikely that you can upgrade anything on your old PC that you will be able to carry over to your new one. Just hunker down and save up...what you would spend on endless "upgrades" at a (?!) Best Buy or a local computer shop will buy you some pretty good starter components. You can do it yourself; its not hard. There are plenty of resources available on the web for first-time builders...might as well start researching now. When your're ready, bring this thread back up. I'm sure there's plenty of people ready and willing to help out with advice... x34
Something that I did when I built my first computer (for myself at least) might be able to help you if you can't keep money very well. It always burns a hole in my pocket, and at the time, I was working a minimum wage job, pulling down under 200 dollars per week. I decided to build "in pieces". It's not the BEST thing to do, because the computer parts will become cheaper over time, but if you can't seem to save, you'll be able to physically work towards that goal. You need to have a mildly good understanding of computer parts before you start going and buying things. If you'll tell me how much you want to spend (sans monitor), I can set you on track with the parts you need and the places to buy them.
What are you crackheads posting? Morris Code? Htown - you really need to get a new pc. Your motherboard is going to stop you from upgrading to anything decent at all.
Awsome advice guys. I feared that I would have to pony up for a new comp, but I thought I'd at least see what my options were. I will probably go the build route.
I think what you actually meant to say is, "Thanks for the grammar lesson Drew." God, you're a mess..........
