Have a buddy that is moving from CA in a few months and really digs The Woodlands concept. What is the commute time to downtown in rush hour, tollway, and during normal times. Thanks!
a guy from california will feel like downtown is right next door. i have clients/friends in LA who commute 2.5 - 3 hours EACH WAY!!! and they talk about that as being very normal.
No wonder they filmed "Falling Down" in LA. I think I would go postal with that kind of commute..... Jesus people will do anything for sunny 75 degree year-round weather....
From Katy to Galleria area took me about 1 hour, 1.5 hours max on westheimer. I figure Woodlands is the same distance, just north instead of west. I went to work about half hour before rush hour in morning and went home half hour after rush hour in the evening though.
Depends on if you wanna take the Hardy Toll Road or not. The toll road takes about 35 minutes to get to downtown. Sitting in traffic probably an hour to an hour and a half.
I would take park and ride or Hardy. The commute can range from 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on traffic. Typically it isn't too bad and on average about an hour.
I used to drive from near the back of the Woodlands to UH everyday for 8:00 and 9:30 classes and could usually do it in an hour, I'm thinking I probably took the Hardy though.
I figure this is a good place to put this gem I heard from a co-worker. She's recently back in the office after working from home for two years. She was complaining to me that it takes her an hour and 55 minutes each way on Monday-Wedensday to get to and from work (office across the street from the Galleria) and on Thursday-Friday, it takes her over three hours. She lives in League City. Considering we left at 4:20 from work on a Friday afternoon for our trip to Arizona/Mexico and we were past Boerne by 7:20, I'm going to go ahead and call bull****. BTW, Drewdog, it takes us 45 minutes at minimum to get to my in-laws house from Beltway/Briarforest at any time of the day. I hate that drive more than any other drive I ever have to take.
as long as he doesn't have to take the Katy Freeway, he should have no problem with keeping his sanity.
Ha, funny. I live in Sterling Ridge Estates, the apartments right there at Kuykendahl and Lake Woodlands, across the street from Kroger. I absolutely love living back there. Its quiet, clean, and everything is close. We should all hang out some time. We go to Black Walnut about once a week after work.
I would actually, but I'm in Austin right now working/finishing up school (though I'll be home this weekend for the T-Mac softball game ). Do you ever play ball in the parks around there? I practically lived in Sundance park working on my game while I was going to UH. (Sorry for the thread derailment... bored at work! )
Not really. I have two clients that I'm billing over 40 hours plus right now so I am hella busy all the time. The only time I usually stop is when I have my kids. I hope to get a break after October (if I can drag it out that long) but I have a feeling that Dell Professional Services is going to start up another gig not to long after that and I'll be right back at it. The hours suck right now but its gotten me completely out of debt and is helping me refurnish my place after the exwife took me to the cleaners in the divorce. I seriously need a LONG vacation.
shouldn't take more than 45 mins to an hour. i made the trip from Spring to the Galleria for years and even with bad traffic it usually never took more than 45 minutes.
I drive from 1960/Jones to Fannin/Holman every morning, i have to be at work at 7:30. It takes me around 10 mins to get from my apt to 45/Beltway 8. then 25 mins to get downtown from there. I would imagine the drivetime from the woodlands to Beltway 8 is around 15 mins so at 7am it wouldnt take too long. 40mins prolly.
I would suggest to your friend for him to explore the park and ride option. It takes most of the commute stress away, you just sit back, read the paper, work on your laptop or even take a nap. The park and ride buses are clean, big and comfy unlike the regular metro buses. He should see if his new employer pays for park and ride. Many companies do since it promotes mass transit.
