    In a word.

    No.

    In two words.

    Hell no.

I spent a semester commuting to work from San Marcos to Austin, and I hated my life then. Nearly an hour on the road there, and another hour back...it was hell. Add at least 45 minutes to both sides not knowing where in San Antonio you'd commute from.

Where in Austin? I'd advise against working in North Austin from SA because you'll experience Austin traffic twice as long.

I know people in New Braunsfel, San Marcos that commute to Austin.

They all work in downtown and either 7-3:30 or 9-6 hours. Alternate work schedule helps. If you come into work at 7, just make sure you start the coffee pot. This helps because if you ever stroll in 30-45 minutes late, the 7:30 people won't complain.

A compressed schedule is also advisable. 10 hrs for four days cuts down the drives plus you'll miss friday traffic.

Try to telework atleast on Fridays. I know someone who works in Austin 2 days a week and teleworks from Houston the other three days.

I have a friend that is considering doing this, but he'll also only come into the office two days a week. He figures one night in a motel a week isn't bad if he doesn't feel like driving home.

Joejoe-Its a central Austin thang. I'd hope for a 7-3 schedule. As it is I wake up at around 5:30 so leaving the house at 6 wouldn't be a problem.

rockHEAD-Moving to Ausin... Just as pretty as S.A. yes, but waaaay so very overly expensive. I'm not into suffering anymore, I want comfort. I want a yard. I want a house. The properties in S.A. are really cheap and beautiful as well!

We'll see. Guess I gotta get the job first.
Any other advice is more than welcome.
    :)

The drive from San Antonio to Austin s.u.c.k.s. The distance by itself isn't that bad, but traffic on 35 is a nightmare all the way.

If you want to live in San Antonio, then get a job in San Antonio. Otherwise, you're going to suffer (a 1 hour commute is suffering, believe me) and you're going to be an unnecessary clog in the roadways.

I think its feasible if you do 7-3 as long as you don't mind the distance. Good luck! You do know that you will be obligated to watch some Rocket games in Austin.

That would be a nasty commute. Even if you left S.A. at 6:00, by the time you got to Austin you'd be right in the middle of it. The river in Austin acts as a big bottleneck for traffic. You would have to leave earlier, and would still have over an hour each way.

Don't blame you for not wanting to live in Austin because of the cost... I'm the same way (and almost out of here, thank goodness)... but do you have a particular reason you have to live in San Antonio? May want to try San Marcos or New Braunfels... both pretty and not as expensive, though San Marcos at least is growing fast. You'd still have a considerable drive.

I wouldn't do that commute; everyone here knows I'm not the type of guy to start a thread on commutes. Take comfort in that. I'm tough and rugged, and I wouldnt' do that commute.
