The 2006 Houston AIDS Walk will be held on Sunday, March 12th at Sam Houston Park and its aim will be to increase awareness about the spread of HIV infection among residents of Houston/Harris county. Though people are living longer with HIV than ever before (in part due to increased quality of care and "better" anti-retroviral medications) we are nowhere near a cure. The website states that one out of ever 90 Houstonians is HIV+ and I think most of us are aware that this is no longer an infection that limits itself to the homosexual population. The most current statistics from CDC indicate a growing trend in infection among the African-American male and female population more than any other demographic, specifically those who consider themselves on the "down low" i.e., are married but have somebody "on the side". At any rate, as part of the Health and Human Services Department, our team is conducting a walk to raise funds* and I'd like to provide the following links should anyone care to participate by either walking, donating, or sponsoring themself or a team and collecting funds as they see fit. If you would like to donate, use this link and the amounts will count towards our team goals. To access the main page of the AIDS Walk, you may click here. Thanks guys. *I hope this doesn't come off like spamming and if I'm violating some BBS code by asking for donations I will kindly delete this post.
apologies for the whoring, but i would like to give this a bump in case anybody would like to participate, donate, or refer this to their friends/coworkers who would like to do any of the above. thanks.
