I decided to start a new thread here to respond to him, because I had taken Jeff's thread seriously off topic. The Chinese General in charge of the current crisis, Gen. Xiong Guangkai, made an overt threat of nuclear attack against Los Angeles. The Chinese are currently building up their military because, as Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian stated, war with the United States "is inevitable," These same Chinese were caught funnling money into the Democratic National committees accounts through Buddhist monks, the Lippo Group, and various other "straw doners". In exchange for this money, Loral and Hughes Aerospace were allowed unprecidented leeway to sell sensitive technology to the ChiComs. Before Bill Clinton, we were the world's lone superpower. 8 years later, Red China has the technology to put warheads within 30 feet of any target it chooses in the entire world. When the Congress tried to investigate the Chinese contributions to the DNC, over 100 witnesses either fled the country of took the 5th, and the White House and congressional Democrats stonewalled the entire process. Senator John Glenn, in my view, erased any respect due to him in this process. Now, Democrats are once again forced to point fingers at historical figures because they cannot defend their position. Thanks Liberals, the new Cold War has begun, and we have Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and the money grubbing Democratic National Committee to thank for the current situation. China is the new Evil Empire, and they are not our friends. They are Stalinists (a group who killed 100 million people last century, making the Nazis look like amateurs), and the world will not be safe until their current form of government is overthrown. Unfortunately, I predict that our current relatively good economy will have to be sacrificed to make the world safe again. So Rocket River, my answer is YES, sellings arms to the Contras, Iran, and Iraq can not even compare to the error our government has perpetrated by allowing the Red Chinese Stalinists access to our most sensitive technology. Too, your stance is PITIFUL, because what happened then is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT to the current crisis developing in the world. I remember around 1994-5 when Japan was the new economic superpower. There were all sorts of warnings about how they were preparing to re-form their military and could build multiple nuclear weapons in something like 6 months. Both statements are defensive, though. The first says because of the US's policy...whether right or wrong, that is no "we want to go to war." The second says that if the US now uses nuclear threats against China, they can now do the same to the US...why is that so bad? Or, different thatn what we have said to other countries, what they have said to us, etc. It is just male leaders trying to show who is more "macho." What you have to realize is that much of the world is scared of us. They feel that our culture is similar to the "disease" we like to call communism...that it will spread rapidly and will not stop until it consumes everything. Additionally, we are usually seen as aggressors because we get involved in everything. Finally, we have used nuclear weaopns not once but twice -- and have since threatened with that force, as we were first to get it. Thus, any paronoid peole in other countries can say, "they have done it before, what is to stop them now?" Tell me why it is our duty to defend Taiwan which is simply a political refugee island. Why can't we just vacate it like we did with Hong Kong in a peaceful manner? and Jim, people like you cause wars because of your total disregard for life in statements like: If China should launch an attack on Taiwan, where do you think they will take it, to Japan, Los Angeles and main street USA. We can diplomatically deal with Taiwan just like Honk Kong. There is no Evil Empire that has never been there before...and look at their history of wanting to take over the world...and expand their boundaries like Stalin and Hitler. What is it exactly that you are afraid of? You scare me...not the Chinese. Because you won't let China deal with their own problems in a manner consistent with their long, honored history...you want to press the issue and protect a freaking island of political refugees, who want to die for their cause anyhow.
