With the end of the season approaching, we need to start finalizing the common draft for when it comes. The draft will occur shortly after the season ends, either in the afternoon or night (which one is better for you guys?). Anyway, the point of this thread is to establish next Friday as the deadline to finalize which starters you put in the draft. This year, we are doing 2 starters from each team. Next year, we will probably be going to BGM's version of the 4-1-1. (see thread for details) Now, for the two new GMs, let me explain how the system works, because it has caused some controversy. You can release starters from your team who were legitimate starters, even if they aren't starting for you now. However, you cannot start a player during the season clearly inferior to another to "see his stats" and then claim him as a starter. Let me give you an acceptable and non-acceptable version: Acceptable: Crisco is being allowed to submit Jahidi White to the draft, although he has Raef Lafrentz as his starting center right now. White was displaced from the starting lineup because of a trade, and I cannot penalize him for doing that. For a decent stretch of games, White was a legitimate starter on his team at center, and the best option he had. Another example is with my own team and Hedo Turkoglu-- he didn't start for me in the postseason, but for a decent stretch of games he was the best I had at SG and I started him. Unacceptable: When Thrilla was the Bucks GM, he claimed to be starting Scott Williams and Lindsey Hunter over Ilgauskas and Andre Miller to "check their stats" as starters, which seemed suspicious from the start. At the end of the season, he tried to submit them to the draft, and he was not allowed to do so. The starters have to be legitimate-- they had to have been your best options. Another example of an unacceptable scenario-- towards the end of the season, I traded John Stockton (who I planned on submitting to the draft) and a lower pick for Charlie Ward and a higher pick. Ward had started all season long for the Celtics. However, I had Francis and Iverson in the backcourt at the time, and there was no way Ward could legitimately start on my team. Therefore, I was unable to submit him to the draft, and I had to give up Turkoglu instead. It doesn't matter if he started for someone else-- he has to be a legitimate starter for your team to be submitted to the draft. One final note: if you platooned two guys at a position, like VOR did with Lorenzen Wright and Dale Davis at center, you can only submit one of the two to the draft. Players must be of different positions. Anyway, hope everyone understands this... this thread should help everyone better understand the quality of players in the draft, and hopefully the new GM's understand how to do it. In addition, for trading purposes, I'd like for everyone to list the picks they have in the common draft as well. The list will be official as of next Friday. So, anyway, here's mine: Houston Rockets Draft submissions: Hedo Turkoglu Elden Campbell Picks: Pistons First Round common (15) P.S.-- Many have asked about what to do with the extra rookies from this year. Since there will be a whole lot of scrubs available in the latter part of the 2nd round, what does everyone think about giving teams in the common draft the option of drafting an undrafted rookie? Just a thought... ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Profiles, rankings, mock drafts, and more! The Mo Taylor Fan Site
Submissions: Kevin Willis - C Tim Hardaway - PG Picks: Clippers 1st rounder (#9 overall) On a side note, I like the idea of you letting players who went undrafted get picked in the common draft. That makes this common a little better without taking away from better teams unfairly. Sounds great to me. ------------------ I would rather have Mo Taylor and his love of the Rockets than Webber and his love of our money. the Denver Nuggets are releasing --Brian Skinner--PF --George McCloud--SF i have the #2 common pick ------------------ ***FRANCHISE***
CAVS: I'm releasing Shammond Williams (PG) and Tractor Robert Traylor (PF). I have the #10 Common Pick. No second round. No dis-respect, but I see maybe two players that could make any kind of impact for the crappy teams. Why are we even doing this draft? The impact of it is next to nothing. Lorenzen Wright, Cedric Ceballos i have my 2nd round common pick. i belive that makes it pick #58 Cat, i do think there should be some other players available like the undrafted rookies. for example i would love it if i had a chance at Tyson Wheeler. quite frankly, i would love it if i have a choice PERIOD. because with the last pick in the draft i will have NO options otherwise. thanks ------------------ Hanta-Force Paintball www.hanta-force.com
I guess as you switched to the 1st pick you do not need any Camby condition anymore to be available at #2 as you know have the #1, and Camby has a condition from another trade that he will go to the draft. (and the condition was never that you had to pick him I guess, only his availability) ------------------ The CC.net NBA Sim Board/Homepage
I remember when my friends and I were imagining what it would be like for Cat and Tyson to dominate the league, well 1 out of 2 isn't bad. ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams and Lisa Malosky fan club. atheistalliance.org
No dis-respect, but I see maybe two players that could make any kind of impact for the crappy teams. Why are we even doing this draft? The impact of it is next to nothing. Seems pointless. It's about gradual improvement, not flip-flopping the league. Rome wasn't built in a day. There may not be a ton of stars in this draft, but take a look at some of the players you non-playoff teams are releasing: Brian Skinner, Tractor Traylor, Cal Bowdler, etc. The common draft isn't typically a star draft... it's a role player draft. And there are some pretty damn nice ones around. While they might not be getting you 20 and 10, they're a significant improvement over what you give up. ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! VJ, Welcome back. You here for good now? I remember you saying a few weeks ago it would probably be until about July 1 that you could post often. Anyway, just to give you an update, you had the 26th pick in the rookie draft last week. I didn't skip you, because I know you didn't know about the specifics of the draft, so I drafted for you by best available/need and you now have Jason Collins from Stanford. I figured you would be releasing Kandi, and I knew you weren't good at the center spot, and Collins was the best center on the board at the time. Hope you can use him. ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Profiles, rankings, mock drafts, and more! You probably will have a choice in the remaining rookies. I didn't address it earlier Cat but I'm all for adding the rookies. I'm not so very much in favor for adding a bunch of nameless players to be picked from other leagues so if you do decide to make Tyson Wheeler and others such as him available can you limit those players down to a few name-given players with a description of these? ------------------ The CC.net NBA Sim Board/Homepage
I am submitting: Horace Grant - PF Glen Rice - SF I have the Lakers' second round common pick. ------------------ All hail Fadeaway's Cyberfish -- your 2000-2001 BobFinn* Fantasy Basketball League Champions!
C/PF Carlos Rogers PG: Jacque Vaughn my picks: + Grizz 1st Rounder (12) + Celtics 1st Rounder (14) + Nets 1st rounder (20) + Sixers 1st rounder (25) + Kings 2nd rounder (19) + Sixers 2nd Rounder (25) ------------------ Squatting on old bones and excrement and rusty iron, in a white blaze of heat, a panorama of naked idiots stretches to the horizon. Complete silence-their speech centers are destroyed-except for the crackle of sparks and the popping of singed flesh as they apply electrodes up and down the spine. White smoke of burning flesh hangs in the motionless air. A group of children have tied an idiot to a post with barbed wire and built a fire between his legs and stand watching with bestial curiosity as the flames lick his thighs. His flesh jerks in the fire with insect agony.
I think there is plenty of good players available, and certainly better than those you are releasing. But Rome was not built in a day, and it was not the idea that you would become a playoff team by just drafting. Look at the real NBA - CLippers sucked for years (bad management) and now Krause don't know what to do with the Bulls. The top teams in the draft will get a mighty improvement, but even you at #10 should be able to improve over Shammond Williams and Robert Traylor. A few of the pointguards available: John Stockton Andre Miller Tim Hardaway Mark Jackson Damon Stoudamire A few big men available: Marcus Camby Jermaine O'Neal Brian Grant Lorenzen Wright Z. Ilgauskas Dream Oakley Googs Kurt Thomas Elden Campbell Arvydas Sabonis A few others available: Derek Anderson Michael Dickerson Jim Jackson Cedric Ceballos Austin Croshere Hidayet Turkuglu Reggie Miller Glen Rice Doug Christie and I have not listed all under each list. Granted the talent not listed is not the best, but thats whats coming to us late pickers to replace Camby et all. You also probably will get the remaining rookies, and if VOR suggestion comes through a few others also. But the improvement will have to come mainly from smart GM'ing - Just look what Clippers and Bulls - the sim-versions - have managed already. And to not forget - you did also have the rookie draft to improve. ------------------ The CC.net NBA Sim Board/Homepage
