Not to start another thread about the [Big Game]* , but why is it that every commercial you see or hear that makes reference to the [Big Game]* calls it ‘the big game’ - or something to that effect - instead of just calling it by it's real name - the [Big Game]*? Why are people not allowed to make reference to the [Big Game]*? Are there similar rules for the World Series or NBA Finals? Just wondering. *removed by Moderator due to potential liability with the NFL
One of the ways to lose a trademark is to not defend its unauthorized use. The NFL has to defend its trademark on "Super Bowl" or use it, so most commercials just use "the Big Game". That's why every once and a while you'll hear a story about a big bad company threatening or actually using litigation against someone small using their trademark. The stories usually try to make the big company sound evil, when really, they have no choice but to follow up on their trademark. An example is when Disney threatened to sue a local child care place that was using Dinsey characters. They are forced by law to defend their trademarks or they can lose them.
