Here's the situation. I'm given the task to advertise a new product. Since our budget is tight, I have to determine what is the best course of action. I have to make sure that whatever advertisement method that I choose will generate enough reward for it to be used. I don't necessarily have to get immediate sales from the advertisement form. The major achievement would be to popularize the item in everyone's eyes. I want it so that whenever the name of the product is spoken, people would have already known what it is. I do need honest opinions if possible. If I were to suggest a TV commercial ad (expensive as it might be), does the average person really give a care? I'm sure TV ads work, but I'm also pretty sure that it does not help every company. Personally, if a commercial shows up about Academys or Target or something with a big corporation, I'll definitely keep a closer eye on it. However, think this way.... If the item is, let's say, a new bicycle that has a different peddling motion, would you pay enough attention to know what it is when someone brings up the topic? I really do appreciate it, and for the sake of forum rules, I've left out the name of the product or anything that resembles it. Thanks again!
I would venture to say that the average person does not care nor will watch your 30 sec commercial. There are many constraints to TV ads, that I think only established brands should promote on TV. Think about it, with DVRs and 1000's of different channels, the odds of a viewer sticking through to watch TV ads is very small. You may do better by targeting your consumers through print ads. For example, if its a new bike design, try advertising in Outdoor Xtreme Sport type magazines. Ultimately, your product must meet a demand in the market in order for it to create a buzz. (Im sure you know this) If your product is going to "Change the game" so to speak, then you want to create as much buzz as possible with the most credible people within that particular industry.
First...you need to identify the people who would want your product. Are they old or young? Male or female? Middle class, rich or poor? Then find a target ad area. Are they middle aged, middle class females that would like to purchase your product? Advertise accordingly.
candlegreen....you forgot to list my option. Whenever a commercial comes on the TV, whether it's for a new product or not, I always hit the mute button.
Thanks for the quick replies. It actually left me with a lot to think about. I've been trying to express how important it is to carefully detail each situation before they decide to spend money on a route. They're very impulsive, which is why the budget is so low for this project. Your posts does tell me that I probably need to do a little more research before giving them any sort of a project proposal. Thanks a lot and a larger sample size would be great also
Uhhh... how would the poor people know about the product? THEY Don't have a TV, RADIO, CAR, Newspaper, etc.
I think he meant to find the right market. If a product is an expensive, high-end high-quality product, or something of the cheaper side that might fit for the middle class customers. Appreciate any input I can get though. Thanks
