I posted this in another thread but I think this is worth noting. Does anyone else find it ironic that Rasheed Wallace of all people was playing the peace keeper in the fight? He almost single handily subdue the fight unitl the fan threw that cup. I remember last year before he was traded, he did interview about how he wants to change his behaviour on the court because of how it's affecting his family negatively. Surprising he's done that.
He is finally growing older and after winning a championship i'm sure he knows what it takes now and knows he cant be the same old rasheed and get to the top again.
I'm just so happy to see Rasheed has finally come around. He's the reason why I rooted for Blazers. I was just as much frustrated as other fans when Rasheed got all that bad publicity. We all know how talented he is. But he just couldnt' control his emotions on the court.
Well...I think he'd step in if it was Bonzi Well out there fighting... But yea, I think Winning a championship and his realization of him having family did help him alot.
I've always liked Rasheed despite his on-court antics. I think his main problem with his temper has been that he loves the game so much and he gets way too into it that he just lets it take him over at times. I read somewhere once that no matter where he's going or what he's wearing, he always wears a pair of basketball shorts under his clothes just in case he sees a pickup game going on so he can join in. -Nick-
The old Rasheed might've done the following. Extreme: Dock Ron Artest right then and there. Interestingly enough, that might've prevented the riot and would've ultimately done a lot of good that no one would ever know about. Less extreme: starts to bump chest and talk smack with the Pacers A little more tame: Not doing anything physical, but be one of the people jawing with the Pacers in the background. Very Tame: Done nothing and don't give a crap about his team. The thing is not only did he not do these things, he actually went and try to seperate everybody. That's maturity.
I agree, I am still amazed that Sheed didn't do anything...good for him...I also agree that his actions give hope to Artest when he comes back to the league...
To Sheed's credit, his problems have been more with off the court issues and referees, rather than his fellow players or teamates right?
It was great Sheed didn't get into any fights but as noted was he going to fight Pistons fans? Also, Sheed and also Artest aren't actually known for fighting more for losing their tempers and thus getting fined by the league for mouthing off at the refs or throwing stuff. I'd bet that Reggie Miller has been in way more altercations than either of them.
So much for commending Rasheed Wallace: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=241123030 Apparently, he threw a headband into the stands and got ejected. What an idiot. Stern is going to slap him down for a game or two I bet.
Wallace's seems to have problems relating to him being childish and getting upset over not getting his way. Artest is just nuts.
Actually, I re-watched the tape of the fight and Rasheed was one of the instigators. He was running his mouth and pointing at the Pacer's players while Artest was laying on the scorer's table. If they would have been playing in Indiana he probably would have thrown some punches of his own. Remember, no pistons actually threw a punch. But if the cities would have been reversed and the Pistons would have fought with the Indiana fans, don't kid yourself, Rasheed would be suspended right now.
The difference btw Artest and Wallace is that Artest does not have the off the court problems that Sheed does. Most people just dont realize this.
