So, today I start having problems with sendmail over my network. I can't send any mail on any of my emails (all on different servers) using their sendmail server or using the Comcast SMTP. I call Comcast and am informed that my IP has been blocked due to spam. I told them that I re-booted my modem like I do fairly often to get assigned a new IP and they informed me that from now on because of this ONE INFRACTION, port 25 will be permanently blocked and that the only way I can use sendmail through their system is to login using their authentication. I inform them that that works fine for my Comcast emails, however, I cannot do that with emails for my other domain names because they have their own authentication protocols. I am told that the only other option is webmail. ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME!!!??? I have not sent a single spam email EVER. I told the woman on the phone that it is NOT difficult for a spammer to ping random IP's and use them to send spam. She just wanted to know if I had a virus. Uh, not on my MAC! I asked her, well, why doesn't Comcast just reassign the IP and see what happens. I mean, if I'm truly a spammer, wouldn't that IP get blocked as well? She said their policy is one-time and permanent. She said you can call the abuse hotline and...get this...LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR SOMEONE. Are you freaking kidding me??? This is not only an assanine policy, but it is utterly useless. Any spammer, once blocked, will just switch to another IP. Their policy solves absolutely NOTHING and their customer is the one that gets penalized. I've really liked Comcast's service, but I've ****ing had it. I'm looking into broadband wireless or some other option because this if bull****.
That totally blows. I have heard nothing but bad things about Comcast on this board. I'm glad they're not in my area. Sorry man.
I cannot use Charter's SMTP server unless I am physically on their system. It's been that way for years. If I'm on the road, I either have to use web mail or use RDC to log into my home machines and then use Outlook or Apple Mail that way.
I've got Comcast and am going to look out for that. I'm not that satisfied with Comcast unfortunately my only other choice for highspeed is Qwest DSL which is even worse.
He is a cooperate customer service guy. Basically he monitors for cooperate any complaints and will fix problems. I was having trouble in houston contacted him, and I had a ton of cooperate and local guys calling to fix the situation. They also gave me credits etc. to make me happy. He also goes by the name comcastcares on twitter.
Getting Internet service through your cable provider? What could go wrong? I wish that I could get broadband Internet without having to rely on the cable or the phone company. I would actually be willing to pay a premium price for such service.
It did. Thanks for the suggestion. They helped and really explained well what the situation is and why. Very helpful.
They do block Port 25 at the drop of a hat, but you can always Port 587 for outbound traffic, which they do not block.
I've been very fortunate. Comcast's phone/internet/cable service has always worked very well and I haven't needed customer service. I sure hope that continues.
Oh wow, I've heard of this guy. I've heard him on a podcast or two. Good to hear this works for those who need it.
Do you work for Comcast? I spent like an hour listening to some low level Comcast tech support moron tell me this. Each time I would explain why that was totally useless for mail on an Exchange Server. They would seem to understand and like five minutes later, repeat the suggestion again. My suggestion is to immediately tell whomever you contact that you were just on the phone with level 3 support and got cut off. That bypasses most of the minimum wage mouth breathers. I basically had to threaten the lives of half of the Comcast tech support for a couple of hours to get connected to level 3 when I had this problem a couple of weeks ago, and once I got bumped up that far, the guy fixed the problem in around 10 minutes.
