Yes, I know there are other Comcast sucks threads but I'm so pissed I can't search right now.

I've done several internet speed tests today. Most of the results show my speed to be below 56k dial up levels. I've rebooted my modem/router/computer several times and that is not the answer. It runs slow on both my Mac and laptop, so it shouldn't be the computer.

I uses Vonage for my phone service and it's almost useless because of the crappy service from Comcast.

I've done Google searches on problems like this and most people blame it on companies like Comcast not having enough bandwidth. Here's an example:

It sounds like calling customer service would be a waste of time. Plus I'm not sure I want to pay the service fee for them to come and and tell me there's nothing they can do.

AT&T is not an option in my area. I have no problems with the cable service, but I have to do something about internet. We used to use Phonoscope phone service because that was all that was available when our house was built. I believe they offer internet service so maybe that would be the way to go.

I would guess it's your modem.

    1st guess. It's old.
2nd guess, it's on comcast's unsupported list or soon to be unsupported list.

Get or borrow a motorola surfboard and you will see the adversited speeds.

your cable line could be worn out. i had numerous disconnects and very slow internet speeds due to a old? (9 year old) cable line. they replaced it, but took a few days to finish the job.

Ya, Comcast is stacking without upgrading their own bandwidth. I have AT&T but you said you cant use that. Try Road Runner?

I have comcast phone and internet. We've had several problems since the switch. At one point, I had to take my PS3 offline because you couldn't play Warhawk without it knocking the phone service out.

I dropped Comcast because my internet connection was unavailable 60% of the time. They came out several times...told me my signal was weak, tinkered around with the modem, no help. Then they told me my modem was bad, so the guy brings in a comcast modem from his truck, and it doesn't work. Then he ran a new cable line, still didn't work. He left without fixing anything.

I switched to Verizon (live in Pittsburgh), and have had no problems.

Let me give u a hug.

Comcast took over Timewarner / Roadrunner.

if you want internet, the majority has two choices: DSL (att, earthlink etc.) and Cable (Comcast)

so if cable sucks, and he can't get dsl...he don't got much choice

Will they let you switch out modems at the same place you switch out cable boxes?

i'm not sure with comcast, but with time warner you could. i forgot to mention i've had a couple of modems go bad on me. when tw switched to comcast and comcast started to charge $3 for modem rentals, i went ahead and purchase a motorola surfboard vs paying the stupid fee's.

The fact that I've had no cable tv related issues, only internet speed, would that likely mean it is at modem issue? I'm not sure how the different signals (tv, internet) differ coming through the same cable.

Most likely it is your modem, take it back to them and change for a new one.

I left Comcast and am now a Direct TV and ATT (DSL) customer. I will NEVER go back to Comcast.

I still don't think I'm getting the speed I should be getting...and I don't even know if they came out a second time to check the external lines...but I've been just too busy to do anything about it.

And besides, lately I've been able to play Halo online w/o really any lag.

Comcast sucks, but there's not much I can do for the time being.
