I need some help switching internet companies. I live in Sugar Land and really really need to get rid of comcast. I have complained to them like 20times already had a technician come by like 5times only to tell me that there is nothing wrong w/ my internet. I pay for 3.0mps and get the SLOWESSSSSSSSSSTTTTT speeds ever. I get slow speeds even wen im directly connected to the router and most of the times my wireless wont even work (even though it says that signal strength is excellent) When i run speed tests and ping tests and all that crap everything shows up normally and it shows i have pretty good speeds but my actual connection says otherwise. I will get 1.5mps at speakeasy.net but it takes me like 30seconds to load a page on the computers that are directly connected to the modem. Well I need to switch and badly, anybody out there have something that they are really satisfied with?
hmm its weird that some ppl have good or bad things to say about them not in between. lol I'm constantly running at 15 mbps per second on wireless.. i live in the spring area btw
road runner was time warners name for their cable internet. Comcast replaced them in Houston. Road Runner/Comcast is the same thing now.
c..i just got the u-verse internet and tv package...its 3.0 as well...fast internet, even though i never had a problem with speed with comcast internet its just as fast no difference whats so ever
SBC/Yahoo has a new 6Mbps DSL service for about the same as you pay for Comcast internet. Even at those speeds, it won't be quite as fast, but it is damn close. The one thing to note is that your speed will vary depending on how close you are to the nearest SBC switching station. The closer you are, the faster the speed because it degrades as it travels down the phone lines. Cable doesn't have that issue because they can boost the signal from the pole. I'm not a big Comcast fan. I hate that they throttle bandwidth. But, there is no question that they are the speediest service out there short of a T1 line.
This is exactly like my thread from last week. First step: take in your modem and exchange it for a new one. If they ask, tell them an online tech told you do. It did wonders for my slow speed. I was ready to dump Comcast. Now I'm happy with them again. I've yet to have a tv/cable issue. Knock on wood.
well thank you guys for your help. Jeff i will look into SBC/yahoo, im not sure if i can get that b/c i think altell provides DSL in my area. Faos i have gotten 3different modems and it has made no difference. They keep on telling me its my router settings, but it cant be the settings b/c there are times wen it just works totally fine (very very very rarely and it will only last for 30mins max)
Honestly, don't know. I have Comcast myself. I was just discussing this with Dwight Siverman, the tech writer from the Chron, a few weeks ago. I'm not going to switch anytime soon because I really do need the faster speed I can get with Comcast and I've had few if any problems.
Hmm...I may try it out regardless. I don't really download much stuff anymore anyway. If I do give it a shot, I'll post my impressions here.
