This has been going on in the black community for forever. I'm really glad these guys had such an honest conversation about it on national TV. I may not respect Chris Broussard's credibility in sports reporting, but he absolutely hit the nail on the head with everything he said. They started off addressing colorism in the NBA, and then in other realms of society. Please move to a different sub-forum if necessary.
This will probably end up in the D&D, but I'll just say I'm surprised this was discussed on national TV. Stereotypes are hard to break, even if it's your race.
Interesting. If this is a common theme among the African American community, then bringing it to light and discussing its ramifications is a positive step forward.
So do I understand it correctly that they feel Curry gets less scrutinised by the media because he’s light skinned and at the same time hated / disrespected / not getting his due by fellow dark skinned / black players for the same reason? I get the whole history of light skin vs. dark skin and accompanying associations, stereotypes and what not.
I'm not a member of the black community, so I can't speak to hating on Steph because he's light-skinned. I just hate him because of his bs antics on the court.
This is reverse psychology. They have been praising this man all year black and white media alike.....aint nobody hating on this man because he light skinned. He's hated because they try shove him down our throat like we have to like him, like hes the best. Because he tries to open a restaurant in a rival city, also because he leaks private convos to the media about questions hes asked Harden. Its not that we dont like him because he changed the game, because didnt... We dont like him because the NBA changed the game to suite him, for him. Ashame they are bringing real societal issues to promote this narrative that he is hated on because of his light skin. We all know Curry is the NBA's unicorn. They have to protect their product.
I am not qualified to speak on the colorism issue but the argument about Steph getting hate because of it is stupid. 1) He doesn't get hated on by the media 2) He is one of the most popular athletes with fans in the NBA 3) The most hated player on the Warriors was his dark skinned teammate Durant 4) The media trashes dark skinned Harden Now, do some players have that issue with him? I have no idea.
As a member of the black community I don’t agree with this. Light skinned girls aren’t even my preference anymore lol. Maybe when I was younger in middle and high school. But now at 22 I’d much rather have a chocolate woman. Now I do hate Steph because he’s a b****, but that’s a whole nother conversation lmao.
That darned hated Curry. If he wasn’t so hated his jersey would be the top selling jersey instead of number 2.
he gets hated on because he's overhyped. best shooter of all time, sure. but the way the media fawns over him as one of the best players ever is crazy. how about winning a finals MVP first?
Chris Broussard is projecting. I bet that’s why he thinks he receives so much hate and not his trash reporting.
