    OK Folx

Let's debate this seriously. I see alot of
folx saying Collier is a bust.

Why? WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU EXPECTING FROM A ROOKIE?

Who was the best Rookie Center last year?
Kenyon Martin . . . his numbers are NOT all that
    Plus he had more PT.

I like Collier. I like him more than Cato.
He has a decent jump shot. Soft hands. his
defense is not *ss horrible. [He not the shotblocker
that Cato is but he not as foul prone either
and his offense is INFINITELY better]

Collier is IMO a D*MN Good backup center
esp considering it was his 1st year.
As a started YES I would look for an upgrade.

What are the primary weaknesses in Collier's
game that you do not like?

I think the jury would still have to be out on Collier and even Langhi, who people love to bash.

They are both rookies with limited PT. It's all about development.

Collier at best is a backup center. He is not very athletic but is a good basketball player (good shooter, stays in front as a defender). So I don't think he is a bust, but I expect a starter (at some point in their career not necessarily as a rookie) or a more dynamic player with a lottery pick. He could be useful in our system but will never be confused with a great player.
Best part about getting him was picking up the additional 1st round pick this year. Personally I still like Pryz (who will be a starter at some point) but I like the extra 1st round pick more and more!

He's only been in the league 1 year, and he's injury prone. That's my biggest beef with him. Other than that, I haven't seen enough of him to make an educated assessment.

By last year's standards, he was a good pick, but compared with most 15th picks from years past he's pretty bad. Then again, you could say the same for his entire draft class.

I expect him to contribute in this system though. He should be a nice backup, and actually knows how to run a proper pick and roll.

Is it just me, or is it the same people who think that Jason Collier will be a bust are comparing him to slow white players? It goes back to my theory, if it's a white player that isn't flashy, most people don't want to give them a chance to prove themselves.

From what we saw of Collier early in the season, he looked like a pretty good player. Once he got injured, it was all downhill. If he can come back from injury and get some PT, he could be quite a nice little pick.

Personally, I think Pryzbilla is a bust. He has no offense, and isn't that great of a defender.

I think Collier's game is pretty much like MAtt Geiger's.

I'm not sure Collie is as hard-nosed. Collier is a decent player, I'm not sure you can compare him to one player exactly.

Collier is a Luc Longley and Joe Kliene type player. He gets pushed around under the basket like a little girl. He is very slow and outmatched against other big men unless he gets help from a double team. The zone rules are going to help him a lot. However, he is tall and can shoot so there will always be a place for him in the NBA. There was never much expected from Collier so I wouldn't say he was a bust.

Collier performs his role admirably. He stretches the defense, and is large enough to play relatively decent defense. His rebounding isn't *that* bad, although he lacks toughness.

If he can improve his passing skills a bit, and improve his 3pt shot more, then I think he *could* become a decent, starting center.
I'd certainly start him over Cato.

Collier needs some PT before we can say he is a bust. He should be a decent backup but thats about all I expect from him. He has a good shot but needs some improvement in the defensive aspect of his game. I will give him at least another year to judge his abilities.

    My Point too
I didn't expect Collier to succeed Hakeem
and I doubt the Rockets did either
[that responsibility fell on the shallow shoulders
    of Cato]

He's not a bust, just an utterly worthless pick.

I would gladly accept Collier being like Kleine or Schayes. Both had solid, albeit unspectacular, long careers.

You can say whatever you want about Collier, but at least he know's how to set a pick. When he got hurt our pick and roll looked lost. I watched painfully as Hakeem and Bullard tried to set a solid pick on the perimeter. If Collier can set that pick and then hit the jumper off the pass then I think we will be pretty tough.

And for the last time, stop comparing him to white players only. That is the most ignorant tgrait of some people. I'd say that he could be more like Sam Perkins than Joe Kleine. Besides if has a career like Kleine, none of us should complain. Noone appreciates the role of a back-up. He was not brought ion to be a starter. He was brought in as a solid back-up, and I challenge any of you to prove that he won't be.

Thanks for providing all that evidence to back up your point. [IMG]
