Hey Guys, We have some family who have lived here in Texas for the last 7 years. The father has an H1 Visa and works as an engineer for a manufacturing facility. Anyhow, his daughter who is finishing her junior year of high school will be going to college after her senior year. Can she apply for FAFSA? Can she apply for regular scholarships? Can she get in-state tuition? Last time I checked only he had a SSN. How do you apply for loans without an SSN? If you can point me to some links with info ont his it woudl be very helpful. Thanks in advance
if she isnt a citizen then i dont think she can get fafsa or in-state tuition. not 100% sure. id call up the universities in which she plans on applying to and ask them directly.
i have experience in this, if she is not a us permanent resident or on a visa, she cannot apply for fafsa, but she can apply for state aid with the TASFA form; http://www.collegefortexans.com/paying/myapplication.cfm to apply for TASFA she would have to qualify to be a texas resident using SB1528 which can be found here. http://essc.unt.edu/registrar/forms/Affidavit SB 1528.pdf I hope this helps.
Spoiler FAIL. She can be a PERMANENT RESIDENT (if she has a "green card", not citizen) and still apply for FAFSA. Also, it's not the university's call, it's the federal government that makes the call. In addition to getting federal aid, if she has been in TEXAS as a legal resident for more than 6 months, she qualifies for RESIDENT TUITION.
