God. I'm already dreading it. Did it last summer and even though I don't remember it too well it was like there was no one to hang out with any more .
I'm an Aggie and I feel for ya. College Station isn't bad during the school year, but boy does it suck during the summer when no one is around. I usually spent about 4 hours a day at the rec out of boredom.
I think remember most of the places at northgate not opening the entire summer last year the times I did check. Am I just mistaken?
Spent my last summer semester there before I graduated, jesus christ it's boring, place is a bloody ghost town. On the good side parking isn't a big issue...
Go to the library or cafeteria mid-day and watch all the sorority, volleyball and track & field girls in daisy dukes. I briefly went back for a second bachelor's at Nebraska-Omaha and that was the one good thing about racking up another $12k in debt.
We were in College Station selling newspaper subscriptions one summer. Friend got robbed and had his life threatened. Strange experience in that town. I did not like.
I read a blurb several years back in some national paper that said College Station had the #1 singles scene. I guess they weren't there in the summer. No kidding? I used to do that too. I tried to skip the trips though- my boss would cut our commission because it was 'too easy'. What kind of rationale is that?
Loved the school, liked the people, but man did I used to get depressed there. I felt like an outside dog being kept in a small apartment. I require a big, diverse city.
Find a job, take summer classes, go workout, go to pool parties, go out to Northgate, find a lady to hook up with....repeat. Thats pretty much what I did, but I had roommates to hang out with, so nothing was ever boring. I actually thought that I was more busy in CS in the summer because you could move around the town easier. It's all what you make of it. If you sleep in all day and sit on your computer, yeah it will be boring. Get busy and 3 months passes by in a flash and before you know it, it's football season again.
Get a job and go on Craigslist "casual encounters." So many girls to do out there. Just gotta lower your standards a bit.
I spent my first two summers up there trying to finish out some of my core classes. Man, the place was DEAD. But, I will say this....for whatever reason, the classes were always a little more tight-knit, and I always seemed to make more friends in those summer classes than in any of my other classes combined. Also, the few girls that remain behind always seem to be a little more open to hooking up....maybe since it was summer, and people suppose to get horny?
college station is 20 times safer than Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio combined. But that shouldn't come as a surprise since it's a small college town. Not sure where the heck you got robbed, maybe closer to Bryan than CS, but I see girls walking back alone from northgate at 3 am no problem. As to the OP, do you not have those entities called "friends" bro? most of my friends are staying for summer school and they don't seem to have a problem staying entertained. But then again, we're in engineering so lots of us take summer school, which probably doesn't hold true for other majors. I'm a native Houstonian and middle eastern, I freaking love this town. If I had to choose between any city in Texas and CS, I would pick CS. Peace of mind, small town, pretty much everything available, fun friendly atmosphere. It's awesome. Stop being a tight wad and enjoy it.
