This year on Black Friday my alma mater (Duquesne) plays at Duke inside Cameron Indoor Arena. I was wondering if any of you had been to a game there before since I have every intention of making it down there for this game.

What's it like? Is it really all that it's cracked up to be? What about for the anti-Duke crowd? What are ticket prices like? Anything else I should know?

    Thanks

My ex goes to Duke and when I visited her last February I was able to get into the St. John's game and it was absolutely insane. The students were deafening and there wasn't too much of a visitors' section for them to harass. I don't recall the handful of St. John's supporters weren't heckled too badly since they got stomped anyway. I'm not sure what visitors' tickets would run you but I'd be more concerned with getting your hands on them to begin with. You'll have a great time either way. Good luck.

    Not in a million years.

That's like asking if FDR had ever stayed overnight in Hitler's spare bedroom. ;)

Edit: I would say it's probably a really nice experience for Duke fans, don't know if I would show my face as an opponents fan.

it's a good show. i can't tell you how much tickets are, but you should be able to get some tickets for not that expensive a price. sometimes there are people selling their tickets behind cameron, if you don't find tickets before then it's a good last resort. Not wearing Duq clothes is a good idea if you're going to buy tickets in person - or play the "i traveled all this way just to experience your legendary atmosphere" angle. You shouldn't get heckled all that much really, the kids generally focus on the court.

    good luck.

Thanks for all the info & advice.

Yeah, i'll probably end up getting jumped since I never know how to keep my mouth shut. ;)

I plan on buying tickets online -- ebay or something. As long as it's nothing outrageous. I heard the UNC crowd 8 miles down the road will usually welcome anybody anti-Duke with open arms. Would be cool to see a game at Cameron then check out Chapel Hill.

    Obligatory "F Dook" post.

Never made it to Cameron, but I did see the UNC/Duke game in the Dean Dome where Duhon hit the winning layup. Despite the loss, it was one of the craziest games I've ever been to - Knicks Finals Game 7 included.

I think Cameron is really small and doesn't have AC (?). The size of the arena makes it sound a lot louder.

    Dook Sucks. I'm out.

You're kidding!? I'm no Duke fan, but I'd love to go to Cameron with a UNC T-shirt right behind Dickie V and in the dead center of the Cameron Crazies. There should be nothing better than going into enemy territory to cheer your favorite team.

Are you a strong intimidating person? Because I'm not at all intimidating and I could absolutely see them punishing me in various ways when I shouted for my UK Wildcats.

If you go, make sure your seats aren't next to this guy:

I had season tickets for two years back in 1980-81 and 81-82 when they were ready to do the effigy thing to Coach K. Some haters around my seat would shout out "Ferret Face!" Lovely. That guy was a professor, too.

Those were the years of Johnny Dawkins and Mark Alarie and Jay Bilas.

Saw them have Carolina down by 15 at half-time only to lose (one of the Jordan teams...).

Back then there was no AC... guess it's still true.

My nephew goes there now and is totally into the Cameron Crazy gig.

    BUMP

Well, we got tickets for Friday's game for $80 a pop. Definitely excited about that. They are GA seats -- anybody know what those are like? Do you have to camp out or do anything crazy to get a decent seat?

Also, anything cool to do besides go to college parties in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area?

    BUMPED AGAIN (sorry)

Sorry to bump this again but I leave for this game in a few hours and just wanted to know if anybody has been there before. What is there to do in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area? Just college parties? Anything else fun to do?

My tickets are in GA. Anybody ever sit there for a game? Do visiting fans get heckled? I might snap if that happens!

Not too much to do at Duke as far as night life. There's a few bars closer to East Campus (Cameron's on West Campus). I would recommend going to Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. Many more bars to choose from.

Hit up Elmo's diner on Ninth St. for breakfast at Duke and get the shrimp and grits. It'll probably be crowded, but definitely worth it.

I've only sat in the student section, so can't really tell you much about your seats. I wouldn't worry about getting heckled unless you're being an ass yourself. The players are usually the only one's who get a lot of crap from the students. Enjoy the game and worst of luck to your team.

    Haha thanks for the advice.

Despite the game itself being an unholy massacre we still had a great time. Our seats were four rows back behind Duke's bench and it was definitely an experience. I was surprised at just how small Cameron really is. That and at the type of stuff that happens during stopages and TV timeouts that you don't see on TV: crazy cheers, etc.

Very beautiful campus and everybody in the area was so welcoming and friendly. We weren't heckled or any nonsense. Was very impressed.

We ended up checking out the nightlife in the Chapel Hill area. Went to a few bars: Four Corners, some downstairs lodge type bar and Top of the Hill. Definitely liked the homemade beer at the Top of the Hill and the whole "above the ground" atmosphere.
