Sorry, I have to vent on this one. First of all, most people know that the coaches have their secretaries fill these out... and it's always seemed that there's a standard maximum rise or fall for teams regardless of how a game is played. Here's today's poll, in which I'm going to focus on one part.

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/usatpoll.htm

USC has no wins over ranked opponents and one loss, at home to Stanford, one of the worst teams in college football. They also narrowly squeaked past Washington. Oregon has one loss, to #2 Cal. West Virginia has one loss, on the road to #5 South Florida. Virginia Tech has one loss, on the road to #1 LSU. Missouri is undefeated, with a neutral site win over a ranked Illinois team. South Carolina has one loss, at #1 LSU. How in the world is USC ahead of these teams?

I'm not saying I think these teams are more talented than USC, nor am I saying I'd pick them on a neutral field. I think by the end of the season, USC will probably be ahead of each of them, and deservedly so. However, with the information available now, there is absolutely no excuse -- other than voter bias -- to only drop USC to 7. Their resume, at this point, is weak.

who f'in cares about the coaches poll... the only one that matters is the BCS rankings at the end of the season

no reason to get in a huff about the coaches poll at all right now

Eh, I know one week's poll doesn't matter. It's just frustrating, because for years, Texas would drop eight or nine spots for losing at a neutral site game to a really good OU team... and USC only drops to 7 after losing at home to one of the worst teams in the country. The bias is ridiculous... and considering the likelihood of at least one one-loss team playing for the championship this season, it could be relevant.

Dude, its just like you said, at the end of the season, USC will be ahead of them, so it does NOT matter what happens right now. Most of the rankings make no friggen sense neway (VT @ 10, Oregon @ 8, Mizzou @ 11). These rankings are only based upon what is happening right now and the circumstances involved in the win/loss. USC lost b/c Booty threw so many interceptions that it gave Stanford a chance. One last minute interception and touchdown later, and u have the recipe for an upset.

Bottom line, it does not matter who is ranked where right now and there is no reason to get all worked up over it' everything will work itself out in the end.

Because the coaches poll actually plays a part in the BCS rankings. The AP poll does not.

So, maybe it will sort itself out by the end of the season. But regardless of how it plays out, the Coaches Poll has a HUGE impact on those end of year BCS rankings.

you mean the years when we lost by 40+ points? I could understand that, but I don't care enough now to go research and look up what years you're talking about

I guess I just don't care about USC one way or the other, I'm not a 'hater' of them. we beat them in the national championship game and that's fine with me
