http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/sports/6145101.html AUSTIN — Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and Longhorns defensive end Brian Orakpo have been named The Associated Press Big 12 offensive and defensive players of the year. McCoy set a school record with 3,445 yards passing and 32 touchdowns. He also led the Longhorns in rushing with 576 yards and 10 TDs. Orakpo led Texas with 10½ sacks. The offensive newcomer of the year is Baylor freshman quarterback Robert Griffin. Oklahoma freshman linebacker Travis Lewis was voted top defensive newcomer. The players were selected by a panel of media that covers the Big 12. ----------------------------------- hopefully a good sign for mccoy in regards to the heisman... still ridiculous that Texas can have both the offensive and defensive players of the year, an 11-1 record with a win over ou, yet still be denied an opportunity to play in the Big XII title game. but i digress
You know your conference is stacked when one of the Heisman finalists will get third team quarterback.
Sweeps was probably a poor choice of words. Still, getting both offensive and defensive players of the year is very impressive.
This kid will be fun to watch at Baylor for the next few years. Could be just what that program needs.
Except that Tech would probably hire Briles if Leach goes to Washington. I think he's had a lot to do with Griffin's success.
I am actually very pleasantly surprised that McCoy beat out Bradford and Harrell for this award. This year the fans get an official vote in the Heisman. ESPN is allowing fans to cast their vote here Right now... McCoy leads all vote-getters with 17% of total votes. Next on the list is Bradford at 14% then Tebow at 10%. Vote early. Vote loud. Vote late. Vote often.
maybe i misunderstood, but it seems to me you are saying that because they have the best offensive player and defensive player they should be in the Big XII title game. or maybe you are saying something about how good the Big XII is, either way you didn't need to respond with the sarcasm because your post is not clear.
Well, Griffin did follow him here when Briles left so there's a real connection there. But I think RG3 will be just fine. He's a stud.
would they? I don't know- that would be 3 teams in 3 years (all in teh same state) which really makes you into a "stepping stoner" type opportunistic coach and probably makes you unhireable for a long time afterwards.
i was wondering if it was just my computer... apparently TF has ripped a hole in fabric of the clutchfans universe
