Since about a half dozen coaches will resign at the end of the year we might as well start guessing who Tenn., Clemson, Washington, etc... will hire. Current internetz rumor: Oklahoma OC Kevin Wilson or DC Venables has accepted Clemson job.
There's no way I'd go to Washington from Tech. It's not that Tech is a super duper job, but I'd say at this point, the two are equivalent. If I were leach, I'd only go to UW if they were offering insane amounts of cash...
Heard the same thing but no way Leach leaves TT for Wash. There is still a very good chance that Leach takes TT to the MNC so I think his stock will only rise. The one thing about Leach is that he really isn't your normal HC, he's a little strange and I could see him staying at TT no matter what happens. I'm sure they'll come up with enough money to keep him happy plus he'll have more job security at TT more than Clemson, Tenn, and Wash. But money changes everything and if Tennessee comes with a huge offer, it'll be interesting to see what happens.
Kubiak to Tennesse Leach needs to go somewhere. They should have extended him last year. He could take an ACC team to 15 straight bowls with ease.
The thing with Leach at Tech is that according to some people "inside" the program he's allowed to be as lazy as he wants. What the mean by "lazy" is that he doesn't have to continualy kiss donors butts and increase the athletic coffers. He's left alone to do his thing. These tasks will be expected of him at programs like Tenn. or Washington. Let me go on record as saying that this OU/Clemson thing is really pissing me off. OU does not need this type of distraction and shoould focus on Tech.
You know, I never thought about it in that regard. As a student, I still think Texas Tech is a lot better school than most, but it has a lot more to do with the curriculum, the friendships, and the women than it has to do with the city. As an adult, I know I wouldn't want to live there. Hmmm. Interesting thought.
It's funny that a couple of friends of mine just moved from Austin to open a bar there in Lubbock. They're having a good time with their club, but their families are pretty pissed off that they have to live in Lubbock. I could see how it would be fun for college kids, but not for families. I give them hell whenever I get a chance.
Stupid hire by Clemson. Sooner fans have been getting increasingly upset with Brent Venables, and how his defenses have been getting torn up in big games recently (Boise State, WVU, Texas '08). If they waited till the end of the year, they could easily pick up Tommy Tuberville, who's supposedly out at Auburn at year's end. Personally I'm glad they didn't go after Muschamp -> hopefully he stays another year. Some other openings that are coming up: Washington Kansas State Tennessee Auburn
Yeah I've been reading rumors claiming Tuberville was set to sign with Clemson (which would just be a lateral move for Clemson in my opinion). Leach to Clemson makes more sense than Leach to Tennessee. I've also read Butch pulling a Mack and going to Tennessee. That one is less believable since he didn't leave UNC for his alma mater (Arkansas) last year. Going to be interesting to see where Lane Kiffen might end up if he decides to give college a shot. Syracuse would be foolish to stay with Robinson. I don't know of any coach that could possibly maximize the impact and success Pasqualoni had at the school. Clemson is going to be the top vacancy in my opinion. Maybe not the highest offer (Tennessee will fork over $3+ million if they have to), but Clemson does boast the amenities, fanbase, and bank that any other top school has, but with slightly lowered expectations and a less-competitive conference in which to compete. Turner Gill, Skip Holtz, Brady Hoke, Karl Dorrell, Steve Kragthorpe, and Chris Peterson are all names that may be at different schools next year.
I've heard Patterson to K-State a few times... UT's D cord to clemson. I think Leech will give it a few more seasons to see what kind of recruiting class this season will bring tech.
Both Kiffin and Venerables have interviewed for the Clemson job and apparently CBS in Georgia is reporting that Muschamp interviewed as well but that is being denied. Leach is also Tenn's top choice apparently.
FYI, we heard Leach's name brought up for the Miami job a couple years ago. We got quite scared until Leach said he wasn't interested. I have no idea how the man's mind works, but he knows we'll cut him a paycheck for life. We shall see.
