So I figured I would start a thread about college admissions. I was ambushed this afternoon when I found a college envelope in the mail just 1 month and 8 days, that's right, 38 days, after I sent it off 13 minutes before the deadline (online). I guess it was last in, first out. I applied to 9 schools and just had an interview with one on Friday; they said they don't even start to look at applications until March 1. Now, this was one of my last applications I sent; one of the first (and only I sent in early (as in not a deadline)) was UGA on Jan. 5. Yet to hear a thing. So when I looked in the mail and found a BIG, thick envelope I was kind of perplexed. My immediate thought was that it was financial aid info because I had been receiving a lot of that junk recently. Then it said: 'Are You In?' at the bottom. These people better not be ****ing with me. I'm in; it's Tulane! I'm still shocked that it came so quickly; I can't imagine how or why. And I didn't even think I had a good chance; not-so-great SATs, but a spectacular class rank at a not-so-hard school. Well I guess I'm happy. 1 down, 8 left. Anyone else get any college mail? Oh, and it's also a great day because I got my CD litigation $$$ today!!! $13.86, thanks BBS!!!
I have not done anything. No FAFSA, scholarship apps, college apps, etc. Senioritis is kicking my ass
No apps? Hmm; I did no scholarships at all. Instead of taking the 'I'm too lazy' route as an excuse, I use the 'other, more deserving people should have it'. Yeah, I probably shouldn't go to a place that's hard.
I wanted to go to UT and that's the only school i applied to this year. And of course I got in....Top 10% Rule WOO HOO Im so excited about college and now that I know that I'm in, senioritis can take its toll...
For the second year in a row, I didn't get in to the UT graduate advertising program. It's the only place I applied. Apparently the UT-Austin graduate advertising program has no respect for the UT-Arlington undergraduate advertising program. According to my professors, I was one of the best students UTA ever had, but all that gets me is a quick rejection from UT-Austin. So if anyone down there in Austin sees Gary Wilcox, give him a kick in the shins for me.
I didn't know if I would mention it here, but since you asked... I got an email just this morning from the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture at the University of Houston notifying my that I have been accepted into the Masters program there! Boo-yeah!!! The deadline was 1 Feb, so I think that was a rather quick response. Now I don't even have to worry about putting together the application for UT-Arlington. Houston, I'm coming back, baby!! (Just in time for the parade downtown in late October. )
I applied to the University of Dayton awhile ago and a couple weeks ago i got accepted, just enrolled this weekend actually, living on campus should be interesting.
I think you can petition if you really think you're that qualified. Get another letter of recommendation.
I did that last year, and it didn't help. As a matter of fact, my appeal was ignored for months. It took being very aggressive to get anybody to even look at it, and by then, their excuse was that they were full. So I was then told was to apply for next year. It's clear they don't want us and have no respect for the UTA program. I was told that the letters of recommendation would make a difference, so I got extremely glowing letters of recommendation from all my UTA professors. It didn't make a difference. At this point, I fully expect that if I had a letter of recommendation from God himself, I would still not be welcome at the University of Texas (I got into OU last year, but their program is more generalized toward Mass Communication, and after thinking about it, I decided I didn't want to be in a more generalized program, especially since I'm doing this for personal growth rather than just to have a degree, especially since graduate degrees aren't all that coveted even if I did decide to try and get a regular job in the advertising industry. Sadly, there are very few programs that would be right for me. Other than UT, I believe the closest one is at the University of Illinois).
I was just about to start a thread like this, but figured someone would I got a full ride offered to Virginia Commonwealth University A full ride to some school called KEttering in Michigan I got deferred from Rice Waiting on UT, UVA, JMU, and Vtech but i still have to apply to FAFSA
That's too bad. My ex girlfriend and a close friend of mine had undergraduate degrees in advertising from UT. She works in the marketing department fir a casino in Atlantic City. He's at an advertising firm in Dallas doing cool commercials.
Im no longer general studies at A&M, I got into Industrial distribution that was 2 months ago though. I thought I was going to go into 3rd year still undecided
i got accepted to the master's program for ChE at UT. amazingly, i got accepted like 6 days after turning the application in online (about 1 day before the deadline). they said i get no financial aid (which blows b/c i got a full ride and then some for undergrad, paying for stuff will suck). i also applied to the master's program for Petr Engr at UT but since their application wasn't due until August 1st (yes, august 1st) i'm not sure when i'll hear from them. the only reason i got it in so early was everything Che needed, PE did too so i basically had it filled out already and just had to change a few words in my statement of purpose (a masterpiece of BS about how much i like school if i ever saw one). my friend's friend said i should've just lied and said i was going for a PhD to get some nice financial aid. however, i'm sure they wouldn't like it too much when i magically stopped when i got qualified for the master's.
That's kind of the stupid thing about UT-Austin having such a bad attitude toward UT-Arlington students. Our graduates have done just as well professionally as graduates from UT have. I mean, we didn't get the same training in acting superior to everyone else, but other than that, we got an education as good, if not better, than what people in Austin are getting. The people in Austin just don't see that, for whatever reason. Makes me wish the Legislature had taken UTA away from the UT system like they were threatening to do. It's been noted many times that the system has no respect for the institution. I'm sure at this point, it's entirely a money thing that keeps UTA in the UT system because they don't think UTA is capable of educating students and don't respect the opinions of the professors in Arlington.
Maybe Im wrong but I thought in advertising it was all about building your portfolio. I remember when they were graded or going on interviews, that was all that really mattered. Did you have to submit something like that? Do they even have a GRE for advertsting?
They don't take portfolios for admission into the graduate advertising program. Your level of creativity or your ability to create advertising is unimportant to the admissions process. The factors taken into account are the GPA, the GRE, letters of recommendation and a personal statement of goals, etc. Because employers do look at portfolios, UTA grads can easily compete with UT-Austin grads when it comes to getting jobs, etc. In some ways, UTA grads have some advantages in that they can make several contacts in Dallas while they're still in school, etc (and Dallas is a bigger market than Austin). Some of the people I went to school with benefitted from that. I imagine I could've benefitted from that, too, had I taken the time to do so. But I've not been looking for a job. I apply from time to time, but I don't try very hard, and I've got enough going on where I don't need to have a job. From my research, it appears that no graduate of the UTA undergraduate advertising program has ever gone on to study in the UT graduate advertising program. There may be some somewhere, but I've yet to find one during the course of my research.
