well recently I heard one of their songs on the radio called "Shine", i think its amazing, i love it, cant stop listening to it, anyways so yeah I decided to listen to some more of their stuff (90's albums) and they are pretty good, i like
I distinctly remember hearing on the Buzz that they either had the most spins in the 90's on rock stations or had the most singles. Anybody remember what I'm talking about?
Saw them in concert around 10 years ago. They were good. They have about 10 songs that you have heard but probably didn't realize it was them.
It is amazing how often there are bands on top of the world that slowly fade away. Collective Soul is a pretty good band with some great songs. I don't think CS is a band that will be remembered, but they will definitely have some songs that will be around forever . . .
i used to rock "brings me down" in my high school days. Outlaw Dave used to always play it on klol. Too bad they had to ruin it by making it a crappy latin music station.
saw them a couple of times...good stuff live, and i like their music generally December Shine Run Why Pt 2 Gel Heavy The World I Know Where the River Flows Precious Declaration No More, No Less a few others I can't think of the name of.. all really good to me
Collective Soul absolutely stinks. More 90's rubbish. Their live cover of Ozzy's "Crazy Train" is the one of the worst abominations i've ever had the misfortune to hear. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lHJv9TZCPHk"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lHJv9TZCPHk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
They were one of the many bands back then like Stone Temple Pilots where people just had to ask "Is that Pearl Jam?" when they heard it. I thought their 1st album was too "college music" and grunge-ish back then but I remember a couple songs being decent on it.
This song by Collective Soul gives me the chills every time. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IVgKXwl7p7A"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IVgKXwl7p7A" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
They recently recorded and released a concert with the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra. It's out on DVD and a double cd. If you dig that sort of thing, it's awesome. Some songs sound tremendous when accompanied by a full-on orchestra. ("Run" is one of them, for sure.) I've always thought that they are a tremendously underrated band, both live and their albums. They've been around for a while, and I know they are currently working on another album. Anyway, just nice to see them getting a little love- better late than never! OH, and FYI....the first album with "Shine" on it was actually a demo done by lead singer Ed Roland. At the time, I don't think there was even a band- he played all the instruments and pieced everything together if I remember correctly. It never really struck me as "grungy," but I guess that's because I was familiar enough with all of the Nirvanas, PJs, Soundgardens, Alice in Chains, etc. to sense a huge difference both in lyrics and sound.
I saw Collective Soul live about a year ago. They put on a really good show. Their DVD with the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra was also good stuff. Their first three albums were all really good (the second is my favorite). Their fourth album is ok, but not nearly as good. Their fifth album was a big disappointment except for the song Why Pt. 2. Their most recent album, Youth was also really good.
