Here's a little part of US history, which makes you go hmmm.... > > > > Have a history teacher explain this ---- If they can. Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.' Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln.' Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse. Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater. Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the kicker. A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland. A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe. ------------------ When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. It never fails. Wait long enough on the BBS and you will see a topic repeated. In a way it's cool because you get to hear from a new generation of BBSers, but in another way it gets old. No offense Finn. -Turbo
http://www.snopes.com/errata/linckenn.htm Sorry Bob, but much of this is hype. Read the urban legend link above and see for yourself. I would copy and paste, but it is a long page. www.snopes.com is a great site for debunking these kind of things. ------------------ Behad Sergeant at Arms of the Clutch BBS
I think Snopes, for the most part, misses the point. I will credit them for pointing out where the list is just plain wrong. However, when dealing with things like numerology and co-incidence, I don't consider the logic of it important. I don't much like the numerology stuff in the first place, so I don't pay it much mind. But, if you are going to remark on the fact that they've done the same things exactly 100 years apart, it still has numerological significance even if the number 100 isn't any more special than, say, 99. The book, Foucault's Pendulum (sp?), has a scene where a character links the mysteries of the universe to the dimensions of a kiosk to demonstrate how easy it is to invoke numerological significance for things that are very ordinary. Though this feeling can be easily abused, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. ------------------ RealGM Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
