The Capers (and hopefully Casserly, Palmer, and Fangio) era(s) is looking to be coming to an end. The players seem to have given up on this staff. What coaching probables for head coach, offensive and defensive coordinators as well as GM replacements do you feel would be good for this team and this city?

Jimmy Johnson would be nice but I doubt he even thinks about this job. Gary Kubiak was the runner up for the job when Dom got it. Jim Fassell is a good coach.

I would advise against the old retreads like Fassell. Jerry Gray, DC at Buffalo, would make an excellent HC, in the Lovie Smith and Marvin Lewis mold. Another guy to consider would be Norm Chow, OC at Tennessee.

I don't know much about Jerry Gray other than the fact that Buffalo has had a top rated defense the last couple years. I'm a big Lovie Smith fan but he is coaching elsewhere. I want a coach that brings a hard-nosed, no nonsense defensive mentality to the table. I also want a GM that is going to work with said coach to bring in some "football" players. Players with the instincts for the game.

Jerry Gray is a machine, works non-stop, seems like he can actually motivate players and is a very intelligable guy. I like em' as a viable option. :D

I want new talent, like a Jerry Gray. Or a Norm Chow. I think Saunders, the guy who was the offensive Co-ordinator for the Rams under Martz would be a good one too. I dont want any recycles.

Bob Allen on Ch 13 asked McNair if there is any possibility of a coaching change. McNair said they are going to reevaluate everything and look for ways to make the team better, and the coaches are going to be an area they are going to look at.

Me thinks someone is gonna get fired.

What about Charlie Weis (spelling?) at Notre Dame. I think he is using that job to get a head coaching job in the NFL.

I think Weis could have gotten a head coaching job anyways. He wanted to go to ND. Besides, his head coaching career just started -- he would never leave so soon.

Never know. I know he seems to be one heck of a coach. T.W. had the same talent last year and got embarassed and then Weis comes in and had them ranked in the top 10 at one time. Gruden would be my #1 choice though.

Naw that wont happen. You kill your career by doing things like that. Gruden? Thats a first. I never liked him much.

Charlie Weis probably isnt the best move. College football is rarely anyone's first choice and that applies to him too. The reason he's not the head coach of an NFL team is that no one wants him. Apprently he's a super egomaniac and has a pretty crappy reputation among NFL executives and coaches. He's one hell of an offensive coordinator but I'd rather not have him run a team.

Hopefully some good coaches have some bad seasons, ie Holmgren or Shannahan. It would be great if they got fired and could come over here.

Why Shannahan? He is the idiot who gave J.Plummer that huge contract. Not to mention his affection with playing Musical Running Back. Holmgrem? He doesnt impress me either. One thing they can do though, is put together a decent O-line...

That is completely wrong. Charlie Weis is not only a brilliant offensive mind with three superbowl rings, but he's on HELL of a motivator. He went to Notre Dame because it's his alma mater and he thought it would be a unique challege building his former school into the powerhouse they once were. If he hadn't taken that job last December, NFL teams would be ALL over him. I've never heard of his alleged "crappy reputation" in the NFL. Pundits are betting against the Patriots for the first time in 3 years because he's no longer on the team. I've heard more than once that his loss was more important than Romeo Crennel's because Crennel was simply running Bellicheck's (sp) defense, whereas Weis brought his totally unique system to the team.

BTW, what NFL head coach ISN'T a super egomaniac?

I think it is inevitable that the Capers era will come to a close following the season. The team seemingly does not want get up and play for this staff anymore. A name that has been thrown around the NFL the past few years is Kirk Ferentz. Ferentz has a rich history of developing lesser players and turning them into All-Americans. He has NFL experience as an offensive line coach with the Cleveland Browns where he was hired by Bill Belichick. It may be hard to convince him to leave Iowa where his contract runs through 2012. But Ferentz along with his o-line coach, may be a good fit here in Houston if he has some weight in who is selected in the NFL draft.

I feel that a big proponent of any team's success is the relationship between the head coach and the GM. They have to not only be on the same page, but reading the same line. The general manager has to understand what types of players the coach is looking for and he has to be able to aquire those players. If you look at what has been going on in New England, Philadelphia, and San Diego and Dallas (to a certain extent), you will see exactly that. Untill that occurs, this team, and any team, will be mediocre.

The Texans lack "football" players and playmakers. We have two in Andre Johnson and Dunta Robinson, and possibly a third in Antwan Peek, but players drafted that high are supposed to make plays. It's scouting, drafting and developing the middle round talent where a team makes its living. It's in those rounds where the Texans have failed miserably have virtually nothing to show.

Many like to place the blame of Texans woes on any of the offensive line, Carr, the coaching staff or Casserly. But the fact of the matter is that everyone is right because it's a combination of all of these aspects. The offensive line is average on its best day. Carr doesn't appear to have adjusted to the speed of the game and lacks any sort of poise in the pocket. The staff is a ho-hum with no fire and apears to have zero ability to develop talent, and Casserly has put all this mess together. There is blame to not only be pointed in one direction but in every direction. At season's end it will be decision time for McNair as to which dirction this team will be heading in the future.

Find a way to get Bob Stoops. I think he coud make the leap from college to the NFL. The only problem is getting him. On the bright side if we could get him, UT could finally beat Oklahoma.

^ Stoops would get owned in the NFL.

If there is one coach I would call, I'd call JEFF FISHER. He is a fantastic coach who's Houston venture was cut short. The Titans look terrible this season and I think he would be a good coach for this team.
