One more time, JVG coached circles around Avery Johnson and the Rockets executed them to death. Maybe the best move of the night was when it mattered most. JVG asked T-Mac if he wanted to call a timeout assuming Dallas hit their shot with the clock winding down. T-Mac said he didn't and JVG only told T-Mac and Yao what to do. None of the other players knew they weren't going to call a timeout. Not only did it completely catch the Mavs off guard, but it prevented them from bringing in defensive substitutions AND kept them from scheming to keep the ball out of McGrady's hands. Un-frickin-believable.
Everyone on the mavs forum is blaming KVH... what is he gonna do though? He doesn't have the foot speed to keep up with TMac if he was going to drive. Man, its amazing how he just rises up and hits
I'm a idiot, I'm a idiot, I'm a idiot, I'm a idiot, I'm a idiot, I'm a idiot, I'm a idiot, I'm a idiot, I'm a idiot, I'm a idiot.
Hey, I'll admit it. I thought JVG was not the answer. But, not only has he out-coached the Mavericks and their all-star coaching line-up, but he has T-Mac GLOWING about him on postgame interviews with TNT - just going on and on about how his elevated play is all because of JVG.
It's time to give credit where credit is due... there needs to be a JVG chant on Thursday if the Rocks start to look like they'll sweep.
We heard about it when we were getting JVG. Numerous players who have played under him have always had such a tremendous amount of respect for him. They're always so grateful to have learned from him.
I'm just real emotional right now.. i'm having flashes of bob Sura running down the court looking like a pervert with the 3 sign, JVG's post game interview.. just everything is all a blur. When reading about what JVG and Tmac planned just shows what kind of player Tmac is and also what kind of coach JVG is. Just the thought of the coach ASKING his star player what to do, his star player responding AND involving his other STAR TEAMMATE in the play is just beautiful teamwork. Feels very good to be a Rockets fan.
Jeff: I clicked on this thread only cause I saw you posted in it and I know of your longtime (understandable) ambivalence about JVG. But after this game (our biggest since the champ years) isn't it great to have another Jeff in charge? Especially this one? I am so goddamned sold. JVG forevah! FOREVAH.
After game one, I told my dad, "We won that game because of Jeff Van Gundy." Before tonight's game, I told a co-worker, "We're going to win tonight, too." JVG is the difference in this series. Yes, we are executing our defense well against Dirk. But it's the brains behind our execution that is at the core. -- droxford
I'm going to eat crow. I thought JVG was a hideous coach, but now I realize it was the players of last year's team keeping this team down. Go Rox.
JVG is da man! He always has been! You can search far and wide for a post by me going against Gundy, but you will never find it because I never gave up on him. I never stopped believing in him or the Rockets. I thought it was a good signing when we got him, and it's turned out to be great. A team with a second year coach and all new players (except Yao and Padgett) doesn't just go on 10-game winning streaks overnight. WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! 2-0 b****es! YEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHH!!!
I told you guys early on in the season that you were going ot absolutely fall in love with him, just like NYC did. The man just wins you over, he is a "gym rat" as far as coaches are concerned. The hardest working man in business. He embodies heart, modesty, humility, hunger, high IQ, and guts. At least I am glad that Rockets fans everywhere are starting to realize the greatness of JVG, and this is ONLY the first year we have this team together. Ohhh the possibilities
I was completely astonished that no timeout was called and weas thinking "WTF?" And then T-Mac did his thing and it was over. Incredible.
