If the Rockets finish #2 in the west... is it possible? I mean, youre looking at Vogel, Brooks, Rivers, and Stotts. OKC was projected a #1 seed, the Pacers were expected to finish a #2 seed. The Clippers were projected a #2 seed. The Rockets were projected to finish #5-7. So if the Rockets get thr #2 seed, ahead of the Blazers (maybe they finish 4th?), Kevin Mchale would have a great shot. Is it possible? Could the coach who gets bashed on this forum so much win COTY?
I think you're also forgetting Jeff Hornacek. If the Suns finish the season strong, he's a legit candidate for COTY.
I'd give it to Phoenix's coach (whose name escapes my mind for whatever reason). I really expected Phoenix to be one of the worst teams in the NBA this year. At least McHale has two top 10 players to work with.
the keys are in the pudding. he would have to be in the conversation. And as a true rocket fan you'd want him in there, after all he is a rocket.
Say they finish #6? #6 to #2 is more impressive then non playoff team to #6. With the west being so competitive, taking a #2 seed, or even a #3 seed, is nothing short of amazing. These teams are excellent, excellent teams from 1-10.
Daryl Morey is our coach. In game our players coach by committee so no, it goes to Hornacek as much as I hate him as a player.
http://www.nba.com/rockets/video/2014/02/12/Mchale02122014mp4-3144356 Toward the end of the video, McHale explained his instruction to the team in switching up the inbound play after the Harden FT. I think it was Matt Bullard who said that it was "brilliant."
2 seed...maaaybe, but people expected the rockets to be 3-5 in the west. but taking a team to be bucks level bad and getting them to 6 or 7 seed would be amazing. like you said, the west is highly competitive. the 6 through 9 teams are still pretty good as well.
I'm not so brilliant.... why exactly did he switch it up? Because a made free throw puts a shooter in rhythm?
Vogel has my vote. He knows what he's doing. We have a great record, but McHale isn't in the conversation.
It pains me to say that Hornacek deserves it more than anyone. What he's done with Dragic being his best player is absolutely amazing.
