ESPN just mentioned that Mike K (not even going to try to spell his last name) is a coaching candidate as well as Brown and Van Gumby.

To me this is huge news. Coach K would be very high on my list as some one I would like to see as a Rockets coach but I just never considered the possibility.

Coach K? You gotta be kidding me. I'd rather have Kenny Smith.

Spoken like a man with zero basketball IQ

I'll assume that you really don't know who coach K is. Mike Krzyzewski the coach of Duke is who I am talking about.

If you think for one second that Kenny Smith's basketball knowledge could equal Coach K's then you lose all credibility.

Coach K is the most successful college basketball since John Wooden. Coach K consistently fields a college power house that usually does not have superior talent and yet he wins more NCAA championships than any other two coaches combined since Wooden retired.

Mike Krzyzewski would be a great teacher for Yao Ming and Steve Francis. He would instill fundamentals and he brings skins to the table.

I saw that mention. It was Marc Stein reporting it on ESPNews but I am sure the chances are VERY slim to get him. However, it is good to see Les is thinking BIG for his head coaching position. This is not time to skimp now, we need a BIG TIME coach to head this ball club.

Got to disagree on the talent level that Duke has year after year, last year he did have the best recruiting class in the history of ncaa basketball. But he gets the most out of them also and he is a winner.

Can he teach and instill fundamentals and have control at the same time. Francis does not need a teacher, he needs someone to make him understand it will be the way he is told and not the way he wants it to be. I would be againest it as a matter of history. The last few that have tried it out of college have been complete failures in the NBA. We do not need to be experimenting. I could stand an assistant from some NBA team but nobody with no NBA experence.

His name pops up at every significant opening. Right now, it is important to remember that Houston is the NUMBER ONE job available in the NBA. Everyone who is even considering a new job will want to coach here.

    Duece,
I agree that the chances are very slim. How in the world do you convince Coach K to leave Basketball heaven in Duke for the Rockets? I had never even considered this because it just does not seem like something that is even possible. But if we could land coach K it would be bigger news than Lebron James!

    But coach of DUKE?!?

But I like Larry Brown better...

Jeff Van Gundy would be sweet too.

    Just not Larry Smith.

Good rumor, but Coach K would have to be nuts to leave that cozy throne up there at Duke. Perhaps maybe he feels that he needs to move onto the next level. It'd be a great choice...

Duke always has good talent but not great talent. Look at the people that have come out of Duke to the NBA. Grant Hill and Elton Brand are the only players that can claim big time success that I can think of. Everyone else that I can think of has been a significant disappointment.

I also disagree on Francis. He still does not seem to have any point guard instinct. Also Coach K has been great at using big men with in his system.

I think he would be just what the doctor ordered.

How many of his players have had similar success in the NBA as they had in college?

When was the last time a college coach made it in the NBA? Remember Pitino with all of those great Kentucky teams? Didn't Calapari try to become an NBA coach also? What was the end result?
