Last night I was re-watching the Lakers game... and it had Adelman's win count at 797-501... which now, after our Laker win makes his all time record 798-501 (61% win percentage) I just thought it was impressive that he was that close to 800 wins. Is there a lot of coaches in the NBA that can say that? I didn't notice them put a stat up like that for Jackson (though they probably did and I missed it) but he and Pat Riley would have to have pretty good records too. Just thought it was something different to talk about.
Adelman is now 13th all-time in coaching victories: Code: Coach W L Pct. Lenny Wilkens 1,332 1,155 .536 DON NELSON 1,232 920 .572 PAT RILEY 1,195 627 .656 JERRY SLOAN 1,035 689 .600 Larry Brown 1,010 800 .558 Bill Fitch 944 1,106 .460 Red Auerbach 938 479 .662 Dick Motta 935 1,017 .479 PHIL JACKSON 919 393 .700 Jack Ramsay 864 783 .525 Cotton Fitzsimmons 832 775 .518 GEORGE KARL 829 582 .588 Gene Shue 784 861 .477 Rick Adelman 752 481 .610 http://www.nba.com/history/records/victories_coaches.html
Yeah!!! Coach Adelman's 800th win will be in this week hopefully. Coach Adelman is already 10th in all-time win%. Coach Adelman is also one of the 5(?) coaches that have led 2 different teams with a 60+ wins season. In Coach Adelman first season with the Rockets, the Rockets already break most of their win streak records (except home win streak which stands at 20) in regular season. If the Rockets are healthy next season, Coach Adelman will easily lead them to a 60+ wins season and the Rockets will surely be an elite contender. The Rockets are going to have 55-58 wins this season.
